Position: Assistant Director
Status: Full-Time, Permanent
Reports To: Executive Director
Wee Care Development Centre is pleased to invite applications for the position of Assistant Director.
This is an exciting leadership opportunity for an experienced Early Childhood Educator who is passionate about high-quality, inclusive early learning and brings demonstrated administrative organizational and management experience.
The Assistant Director will work closely with the Executive Director to support the daily operations of the centre while providing leadership to staff, supporting families, and ensuring the continued delivery of high-quality programs and services. The successful candidate will be expected to uphold and enhance the Centre's established leadership and administrative systems, ensuring continuity and a smooth transition into the role
Key Responsibilities The successful candidate will work alongside the Executive Director and will be responsible for supporting key areas of centre operations, including:
- supporting the day-to-day operation of Wee Care Development Centre.
- providing leadership, mentoring, and support to educators and other staff.
- assisting with staff scheduling, classroom coverage, and operational planning.
- supporting recruitment, onboarding, and employee development.
- building positive relationships with children, families, staff, the Board of Directors, and community partners.
- maintaining compliance with licensing regulations, organizational policies, and health and safety requirements.
- supporting family registrations, enrolment, and classroom transitions.
- assisting with administrative duties, correspondence, reports, and meeting minutes.
- supporting the implementation of the Nova Scotia Early Learning Curriculum Framework and inclusive practices.
Leadership and Administrative Responsibilities The successful candidate will bring a strong foundationin leadership, administration and professional judgement and will be expected to support or assume responsibility for:
- acting as Executive Director during planned and unplanned absences.
- payroll administration using Payworks.
- parent fee administration, billing, and account management.
- financial administration, including data entry and record management in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
- budget monitoring and financial reporting.
- grant research, grant writing, and grant reporting.
- fundraising initiatives and donor relations.
- Board meeting preparation and organizational reporting.
- strategic planning and organizational leadership.
- human resources, labour relations, and performance management.
Qualifications
Applicants should possess
- Diploma in Early Childhood Education.
- Current Nova Scotia ECE Classification.
- Minimum three years of experience in a licensed early learning and childcare setting.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, including the ability to guide, support and mentor staff.
- Relevant administrative experience, including scheduling, menu planning, documentation, communication, record-keeping or operational support.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office; experience with Payworks or QuickBooks Online is considered an asset.
