North Shore Crisis Services Society provides a variety of supports and services for women and their children fleeing abuse. The Children's Counsellor works in the PEACE Program - our support program for children and youth. We are looking for an energetic, dedicated person who cares about making a difference in the lives of young people.

The PEACE Program offers one-to-one psycho-educational counselling and advocacy to children between the ages of 3 to 18 years old who have witnessed domestic violence. As well as supporting children, the counsellor provides emotional and parenting support and resources for parents regarding the impact on their children of violence in the home. This Children's Counsellor position will focus on children 6 years of age and older. The hours of work are set to enable after school sessions.

The counsellor also co-facilitates the Violence Is Preventable (VIP) program to school-aged children in schools. VIP is an interactive presentation to children in grades 8 and 9 to learn what a healthy relationship looks like, how to recognize relationship problems should they occur and skills to navigate relationship challenges.

This is a part time position is 12 hours per week; two 6-hour shifts

Days of work are Thursday, and either Tuesday or Wednesday 12:30pm – 6:30pm (Days of work, and start times may vary depending on programming, and in consultation with supervisor)

A vehicle is required.





QUALIFICATIONS

- Master’s in counselling psychology or social work; completion or near completion
- 2 years recent related experience
- Preference will be given to candidates with Children Who Witness Abuse training and/or prior experience in this program
- Experience with children’s programming
- Current First Aid Certificate (preferred)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Our clients are women and children who have experienced violence and abuse. There can be personal risk in the day-to-day work. The program provides service for women - including 2SLGBTQ+ women - and their children. Our clients are from diverse cultures, backgrounds. This position requires a criminal record search by the police and an authorization for criminal record check under the Criminal Records Act of B.C.

This position requires Union membership.

Pay: $40.82 per hour

Ability to commute/relocate

- North Vancouver, BC V7L 1T3: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Education:
- Master's Degree (preferred)
