Position Summary

Bowsers Construction is seeking a motivated Civil Engineering Technologist / Construction Surveyor to support our heavy civil construction operations. Our projects include road construction, site development, water and sewer systems, storm drainage, excavation, grading, trucking, and related infrastructure work.

The successful candidate will be responsible for construction layout, grade control, quantity tracking, as-built measurements, and technical support for project managers and field crews. This is a hands-on position involving both field and office work.

Responsibilities

- Complete construction layout for roads, buildings, utilities, curbs, sidewalks, drainage systems, and other civil infrastructure.
- Establish and maintain survey control points, benchmarks, offsets, grades, and elevations.
- Use GPS equipment, data collectors, and laser levels.
- Interpret construction drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and survey information.
- Complete topographic surveys, existing-condition surveys, and as-built surveys.
- Calculate excavation, backfill, aggregate, and other construction quantities.
- Track completed work and assist with progress-payment quantities.
- Prepare field sketches, survey notes, quantity reports, and as-built records.
- Identify conflicts, errors, and discrepancies in drawings or field conditions.
- Communicate layout and grade information clearly to forman, equipment operators, subcontractors, consultants, and project managers.
- Assist with project planning, scheduling, cost tracking, and change-order documentation.
- Support quality-control inspections and confirm that completed work meets project requirements.




- Maintain survey equipment and ensure it is properly calibrated and in good working condition.
- Follow company safety policies and all applicable occupational health and safety requirements.
- Perform other technical and project-related duties as required.

Qualifications

- Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Surveying Technology, or a related field.
- Previous experience in heavy civil construction or construction surveying is preferred.
- Experience with GPS survey equipment.
- Ability to read and understand civil construction drawings and specifications.
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, survey software, and machine-control systems is considered an asset.
- Strong mathematical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage changing priorities.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with field crews.
- Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation.
- Ability to work outdoors in changing weather and on active construction sites.
- Willingness to work additional hours when required to meet project schedules.
