Job Overview
About Cast
Cast Construction Inc. is a Sudbury-based General industrial contractor serving Mines, Mills and Dams across Northern Ontario. Our self-perform trades span civil and earthworks, cast-in-place concrete, structural steel and fabrication, mechanical piping and pipe fabrication, and scaffolding. We build in real Northern Ontario conditions - Canadian Shield rock, winter work and remote mine sites - for some of the region's largest mining operators as well as commercial developers and municipalities.
The Role
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Civil Project Manager / Department Head to lead and oversee our Civil Division. This would entail all ranges of civil projects from inception to completion in our Civil Division. This pivotal role combines strategic leadership with hands-on project management, ensuring that all projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to the highest quality standards.
As a key driver of our civil division, you will coordinate multidisciplinary teams, manage client relationships, and uphold safety and regulatory compliance. Your expertise will shape the success of our projects while fostering a collaborative and innovative work workplace.
This is a working leadership role: you will own the division's performance - people, projects, equipment and margin - while personally managing key projects and key client relationships. You will report directly to ownership and work alongside all other divisions.
What You Will Do
- Lead the Civil Division: crews, foremen, project coordinators and an owned equipment fleet, across concurrent projects .
- Manage civil projects end to end - estimating, planning, budgets, schedules, subcontractors, procurement, change management, billing and closeout - on lump sum and time-and-material work.
- Own client relationships and grow the division's book of work; represent Cast with all clients.
- Oversee and approve civil estimates and tender submissions; set bid strategy with the estimating group; sign off on civil proposals.
- Drive field productivity, cost tracking and monthly project reviews; keep T&M; work fully captured and billed (labour, equipment, materials, rentals).
- Champion Cast's safety program on every site, working with our HSE coordinators.
- Participate in estimating and scheduling
What You Bring
- 10+ years in heavy civil / earthworks / concrete construction, with at least 5 years managing projects and people for a contractor.
- A track record delivering civil work in mining or industrial environments; experience on Sudbury-basin or Northern Ontario mine sites is a strong asset.
- Commercial strength: estimating literacy, contract negotiation, claims/change order management, and P&L; accountability.
- P.Eng., C.E.T. or equivalent standing is a strong asset; PMP an asset.
- Working knowledge of OPSS/OPSD,
municipal contract administration and mine-site contractor requirements.
- A leadership style suited to a self-perform contractor: hands-on, field-facing, and direct.
- Scheduling Microsoft Project, Primavera P6
- Valid driver's licence and ability to travel to sites across Northern Ontario.
- Strong estimating and scheduling skills are preferred
- Ensure all projects meet safety regulations and environmental standards while maintaining a strong focus on risk management and mitigation
Why Cast You will run a division with real autonomy inside an owner-led company that self-performs, owns its fleet and fabrication capacity, and holds long-standing agreements with the region's major mining operators. Competitive compensation, vehicle, benefits and the chance to shape how a growing division runs.
