About Us:

The Muslim Welfare Home is an emergency shelter for homeless women and children in Durham Region. We provide a safe space for clients to stay and offer supports for securing housing. The shelter has a maximum bed capacity of 45 beds.

Location: 425 Dundas Street East, Whitby ON L1N 2J2

Hours: 35 Hours/Week

Time: 9:00AM - 4:00PM

Responsible for cleaning building and keeping areas neat and tidy.

Specifically

- Cleaning floors, rooms, kitchen office area and full bathrooms
- Emptying garbage to disposal bin
- Clean and disinfect rooms, bathrooms & hallways
- Dust and polish furniture and equipment.
- Replenish supplies such as bathroom items
- Report damage of broken items and equipment.
- Put away large food and grocery deliveries.

Skills/Qualifications

- Some housekeeping or cleaning experience
- Must be able to communicate clearly
- Must be able to reach, bend, and lift up heavy items (occasionally), as well as be physically fit and have stamina to complete tasks in timely manner.

- Honest, responsible and dedicated to keeping the shelter clean and sanitary.
- Understanding of how to use basic cleaning equipment and supplies safely.
- Committed to read and observe rules of the agency.
- Other tasks, as assigned
- Organizational skills to keep rooms and storage closets clean and organized
- Communication skills to take direction and work alongside other Cleaners
- Attention to detail to perform a thorough job
- Adaptability and flexibility to focus on whatever task is most important at any given time
- Ability to complete physically demanding tasks
- Integrity, reliability, and trustworthiness to be left to work independently

The person hired for this position will report to Shelter Manager. Job Type: Part time
