COMMUNICATIONS & EVENTS COORDINATOR

About NEBA The North End Business Association (NEBA) is a Business Improvement District representing more than 350 businesses in one of Halifax's most vibrant and diverse neighbourhoods. We work to promote local businesses, organize festivals and events, advocate for our members, enhance public spaces, and build a strong, connected business community.

We're looking for an energetic, organized and community-minded Communications & Events Coordinator to join our small but mighty team.

Key Responsibilities:

Event Planning & Execution

- Plan, coordinate and deliver approximately 10 annual events, including festivals, markets, networking events, and community activations.
- Coordinate activations, vendors, performers, contractors, and volunteers.
- Manage event logistics, including permits, timelines, equipment, budgets and site coordination.
- Lead event setup, teardown and on-site management.
- Continuously identify opportunities to improve NEBA events and member experiences.

Communications

- Manage NEBA's social media platforms
- Coordinate the promotion of events, programs and member initiatives across digital platforms.
- Execute marketing campaigns in collaboration with NEBA ED and external marketing contractors.
- Assist with website updates, newsletters and member communications.
- Communicate with member businesses and community organizations
- Respond to member inquiries professionally, promptly and respectfully.

Administration

- Assist with the preparation of grant applications, reports and funding documentation.
- Using Google Workspace, maintain accurate records for events, budgets, inventories and organizational projects.
- Track NEBA assets, event equipment, street furniture, public art and supplies.
- Assist with board meetings and committee meetings as required.
- Support day-to-day office administration and organizational projects.

What We're Looking For:





Job Requirements

- Experience planning and executing community events, festivals, markets or public activations.
- Exceptional organizational and administrative skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Calendar, Forms, etc.)
- Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines and budgets simultaneously.
- Friendly, outgoing and confident interacting with business owners, community members, volunteers, vendors and partners.
- Dependable, self-motivated and accountable; you follow through on commitments and can be trusted to work independently.
- Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and remain calm under pressure.
- Available to work occasional evenings and weekends, particularly during events.
- Ability to lift and move event equipment up to 50lbs.
- Valid driver's licence with a clean driving record.

Assets

- Experience with social media platforms and creating engaging content, including reels, stories and videos.
- Working knowledge of Canva, Wix, Mailchimp and Microsoft Office.
- Experience writing grant applications, reports, newsletters or promotional content.
- A diploma in Event Management, Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, or a related field is considered an asset. Equivalent practical experience will also be considered. We value demonstrated skills, a strong work ethic, reliability, initiative, and a positive attitude above all.

Position Details Position: Full-Time, Permanent (35 hours/week)

Salary: $50,000–$57,000 annually, depending on experience.
