Job Summary

Spectrum Home & Family Care is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and motivated Community Support Worker to provide individualized support to adults with developmental disabilities and diverse support needs. This position involves assisting multiple clients focuses on empowering clients to develop the skills and confidence needed to become as independent as possible while supporting them in achieving their personal goals.

Responsibilities

- Support clients in developing independence with everyday life skills.
- Coach and guide clients through paperwork rather than completing it for them whenever possible.
- Teach and support clients to complete government forms, taxes, employment reporting, online applications, budgeting, and other administrative tasks independently.
- May assist clients with searching for safe and affordable rental housing before winter, including teaching them how to search listings, complete rental applications, and communicate with landlords.
- Encourage problem-solving, decision-making, self-advocacy, and confidence in managing everyday responsibilities.
- Support clients with scheduling appointments, making phone calls, and accessing community resources while promoting independence.
- Transport and accompany clients to appointments, errands, and community activities.
- Take one client fishing every Saturday.
- Accompany one client to the gym 2–3 times per week, remaining with them throughout their workout to provide motivation, supervision, and verbal prompting.




- Encourage participation in community activities that match each client's interests and personal goals.
- Complete progress notes and communicate any significant concerns or changes to the office.
- Provide light homemaking support, including meal preparation, laundry, housekeeping, and maintaining a safe and organized home environment as outlined in the client's support plan.
- Provide personal care support, including assistance with bathing, hygiene, and dressing when required, while promoting the client's dignity, privacy, and independence.

Qualifications

- Experience supporting adults with developmental disabilities, autism, mental health challenges, or physical disabilities is an asset. You are KIND & CARING
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
- Reliable, insured vehicle and willingness to transport clients.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification.
- Clear Criminal Record Check.
- Drivers abstract
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to teach, mentor, and encourage independence while providing respectful, person-centered support.
