ABOUT US
Fare Thee Well Legacy Films Inc. is an Ontario company that creates professionally edited life-story films for families. Our clients trust us with deeply personal stories, and we treat that trust as the heart of the work. We are growing, and we're looking for a contract video editor to take on the editing of our films.
THE ROLE
You will handle the complete edit of each film — from raw interview footage to a polished, delivery-ready film — using professional digital video editing tools. For each project you will:
- Receive raw interview footage (typically 60–120 minutes), a transcript, and a project brief.
- Shape the interview into a polished 20–30 minute film: select the strongest material, structure the story, and set the pacing.
- Clean the edit fully: remove filler words and dead air, and polish the audio.
- Finish the film to our brand guidelines: titles, music, captions, and family-supplied photos.
- Export the final delivery files plus a short highlight clip.
The founders review every film and provide final approval before anything is delivered to a family. One revision round is included in each project; full details of our standards and process are shared with the editor we bring on board. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- A strong story instinct: you can find the emotional through-line in 1–2 hours of warm, wandering conversation and shape it into something that flows.
- Proven editing experience: demonstrated skill with professional digital video editing tools — documentary, interview, podcast, or event work is ideal.
- A good eye and ear for finishing: tasteful titles, music selection, and photo placement that serve the story rather than distract from it.
- Care, empathy, and discretion. You will be working with deeply personal family footage. Confidentiality and sensitivity are non-negotiable, and the successful candidate will sign a confidentiality agreement.
- Reliability on deadlines. Some projects are genuinely time-sensitive, and occasionally we need a rough cut turned around quickly.
- Comfort working independently and remotely, with explicit communication.
- Nice to have (not required): documentary or oral-history experience.
CONTRACT TERMS
- Engagement: independent contractor, project-based. Approximately 2–4 films per month to start, growing with the business.
- Pay: a flat fee per completed film; compensation to be determined. One revision round is included.
- Location: fully remote, but applicants must be residents of Ontario, Canada at this time. All work is delivered digitally.
- Turnaround: first cut in approximately 7 days of receiving footage; final draft within 14 days, unless flagged as time-sensitive.
- Confidentiality: our process and all client materials are confidential; a signed NDA is a condition of the contract.
HOW TO APPLY Email

Shortlisted candidates will be offered a paid test edit on a sample interview segment. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
