Role Description The Contributing Editor is a full-time hybrid role based in Canada, with a mix of in-office and work-from-home flexibility. In this position, you will edit and refine articles for clarity, accuracy, tone, and style, ensuring content aligns with Moneywise and Money.ca editorial standards.
You will collaborate with writers to shape story angles, improve structure, and develop compelling headlines and ledes. Daily tasks include assigning and reviewing drafts, fact-checking personal finance content, optimizing articles for digital readership, and coordinating with the editorial and SEO teams on publishing schedules.
You will also provide constructive feedback to contributors, help maintain editorial calendars, and support ongoing projects that advance the publications’ mission of improving financial literacy.
Qualifications
- Solid editing and proofreading skills, with the ability to improve clarity, flow, and adherence to house style.
- Experience in digital journalism or online publishing, including familiarity with content management systems and SEO best practices.
- Knowledge of personal finance topics (e.g., budgeting, saving, investing, credit, debt management) and comfort fact-checking financial information.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to give explicit, constructive feedback to writers.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments, prioritize deadlines, and work effectively in a hybrid environment with cross-functional teams.
- Post-secondary education in journalism, communications, English, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusive, accessible, and gender-neutral language and coverage.
- Experience with analytics tools, audience engagement strategies, or social media promotion of editorial content is an asset.
