The primary purpose of the Employment Advisor is to provide comprehensive employment-counselling, to help job seekers to develop job readiness skills and training, and to provide case management and long-term retention support to assist job seekers to find and sustain employment.
The Employment
Advisor will meet one-to-one with clients and assist them to define, attain and sustain employment. This will involve career exploration, vocational testing, goal setting, resume development and job search and coaching for job retention.
The Employment Advisor may also develop and facilitate job search clinics to be delivered in-person or virtually, which support job search and job maintenance skills. The Employment Advisor is responsible for remaining current on labour market information: salaries, working conditions etc. They will, under the direction of the program supervisor effectively maintain client case files and meet all activities and targets of the designated program area(s).
In alignment with the agency’s commitment to effective cross-team collaboration and service integration, the Employment Advisor will foster positive working relationships with teams from all departments at KEYS to support coordinated service delivery and cross-team initiatives to benefit service users and our community.
The wage for this position is $29.60/hour, for 35 hours/week or at Level V and at a Step related to years of service at KEYS for internal candidates. Competencies Required
- a.Demonstrates understanding of vulnerable populations, labour market, local employer base, and social services in the Gananoque area.
- b.Ability to counsel clients in a trauma-informed, supportive, solution-focused manner.
- c.Ability to advocate to employers, training providers and other service providers, on behalf of individuals requiring assistance with the job search and entry to the workforce.
- d.Ability to facilitate experiential workshops and group sessions in a positive and dynamic manner.
- e.Thorough knowledge of all facets of job search and career development including current labour market trends.
- f.Strong presentation/facilitation skills; high comfort level in public arenas.
- g.Ability to deal with sensitive issues with discretion and to respond positively to challenges; ability to promote confidentiality as a norm.
- h.Demonstrated good judgement and a transparent understanding of appropriate service boundaries.
- i.Must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work and communicate effectively within a cross-cultural team environment.
- j.Ability to work with limited supervision and considerable self-direction.
- k.Comfort working autonomously in off-site locations and promoting KEYS programs and services in those communities.
- l.Demonstrated commitment to ongoing and appropriate professional development.
- m.Ability to remain current with technology related to position and strong computer skills.
