The Government of the Northwest Territories is seeking an Energy Engineer to join the Major Energy Projects Division in Yellowknife.

If you're an engineer with experience in utility-scale energy systems and a passion for renewable energy, this is an opportunity to help shape the future of energy in the Northwest Territories. You'll lead the development of conventional and renewable energy projects that reduce energy costs, improve energy security, and support sustainable communities across the North.

Working as a technical expert within the Major Energy Projects Division, you'll lead the analysis, planning, design, and implementation of major energy initiatives from concept through construction. You'll collaborate with Indigenous governments, utilities, consultants, industry, and government partners to evaluate emerging technologies, develop business cases, and deliver projects ranging from renewable generation and energy storage to transmission, heating systems, and community energy infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the planning, technical analysis, and development of conventional and renewable energy projects
- Prepare engineering, financial, and business case analyses to evaluate project feasibility and long-term value
- Manage engineering consultants, contractors,



and procurement processes for major energy initiatives
- Provide expert technical advice on utility-scale renewable energy technologies and energy systems
- Collaborate with Indigenous governments, utilities, industry, and government partners to deliver strategic energy projects
- Support the development of innovative solutions that improve energy reliability, sustainability, and affordability across the NWT

Qualifications Required Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:

- A Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation
- Three (3) years of post-designation experience in the analysis and design of utility-scale energy systems, including experience directing engineering consultants and field contractors
- Registration with the Northwest Territories and Nunavut Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists (NAPEG) is required within 90 days of hire. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
