Engineer-in-Training (EIT) – Design & Estimating
Location: Nisku, Alberta
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Brock Canada is looking for an early-career Engineer-in-Training to join our team in Nisku. This developmental role offers hands-on experience across both design and estimating, providing an opportunity to build a strong technical foundation while learning how industrial projects move from concept and tender through to field execution.
The successful candidate will initially focus primarily on design work before progressively gaining broader exposure to estimating and project planning. Working under the supervision and mentorship of experienced professionals, including a Professional Engineer, you will contribute to practical solutions that support safe and successful work in the field while developing toward your P.Eng. designation.

What You Will Do
Design and Technical Support
- Assist with the design of scaffold, temporary access, and related industrial solutions.
- Prepare and revise AutoCAD drawings, layouts, sketches, material take-offs, and technical packages.
- Support engineering calculations and design documentation for review and approval by a Professional Engineer.
- Interpret project drawings, specifications, field measurements, loading requirements, and client standards.
- Participate in site visits and field surveys to collect measurements, confirm existing conditions, and understand operational constraints.
- Incorporate field feedback and changing project requirements into design revisions.
- Support design checks to help ensure drawings are accurate, practical, constructible,
and aligned with applicable standards.
- Provide technical support to project managers, supervisors, forepersons, and field teams during project execution.
Estimating and Project Support
- Review tender documents, scopes of work, drawings, specifications, and client requirements.
- Complete quantity take-offs and determine the labour, materials, equipment, and other resources required to perform the work.
- Obtain and evaluate pricing from suppliers and subcontractors when required.
- Assist in preparing estimates, budgets, tender documentation, and supporting schedules.
- Identify scope gaps, project risks, assumptions, and opportunities requiring clarification.
- Support the transition of awarded work from estimating to operations.
- Maintain organized and accurate project documentation in accordance with company procedures.
Collaboration and Development
- Work closely with engineering, estimating, operations, and field leadership.
- Consult with internal stakeholders and clients to clarify technical and project requirements.
- Manage multiple assignments while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
- Seek feedback, apply lessons learned, and progressively take on more complex work.
- Contribute to Brock’s culture of safety, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in civil, mechanical, structural, or another relevant engineering discipline.
- Registered, or eligible to register,
as an Engineer-in-Training with APEGA.
- New graduate or early-career professional with up to two years of relevant experience.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and detailed scopes of work.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and prioritization skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with office-based and field-based teams.
- Willingness and ability to travel to operational sites for surveys, meetings, and project support as required.
Assets
- AutoCAD drafting or design experience.
- Exposure to scaffold, temporary structures, access systems, or industrial construction.
- Understanding of construction materials, methods, and equipment.
- Experience completing material take-offs or preparing cost estimates.
- Familiarity with engineering analysis or 3D-modelling software.
- Experience with planning software such as Microsoft Project or Primavera P6.
- Previous engineering co-op, internship, field, or construction experience.
