About Us
Granite Springs Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-72 semi-private course just outside Halifax. Our members and guests expect a course in excellent condition every day of the season — and that starts with equipment that runs right. We are hiring a full-time Equipment Technician to take ownership of our entire fleet.
The Role
You will be the person who keeps everything moving: the mowing fleet, utility vehicles, and our golf cart fleet. Working closely with the Golf Course Superintendent, you will manage the shop, set the maintenance schedule, and make the calls on repairs, parts, and priorities.
This is not a “wait for something to break” job. We are looking for someone who runs a proactive preventative maintenance program and takes pride in a fleet that is dialled in.
What You'll Do
- Perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on all turf equipment — reel and rotary mowers, sprayers, aerators, tractors, utility vehicles, and small engines
- Maintain and repair the golf cart fleet, including electrical systems, batteries, chargers, and drivetrain components
- Grind, sharpen, and set reels and bedknives to precise height-of-cut specifications
- Build and manage a preventative maintenance schedule with accurate service records for every unit
- Manage parts inventory, source components, and coordinate with vendors and suppliers
- Keep the maintenance shop clean, organized, and safe, including proper handling and disposal of fluids and hazardous materials
- Train seasonal staff on protected equipment operation and daily checks
- Work with the Superintendent on repair-versus-replace decisions and capital equipment planning
What You Bring
Required
- Demonstrated experience as a mechanic or equipment technician — turf, automotive, marine, small engine,
or heavy equipment backgrounds are all welcome
- Solid mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical diagnostic skills
- Comfort working with both gas and electric/battery-powered equipment
- Your own hand tools (the shop provides specialty and grinding equipment)
- Valid Nova Scotia driver's licence
- Ability to work independently, prioritize on the fly, and communicate clearly with the turf crew
Nice to Have
- Experience with turf equipment brands such as Toro, John Deere, Jacobsen, or Ventrac
- Reel grinding experience (Foley, Bernhard, or similar)
- Golf cart fleet experience (Club Car, E-Z-GO, Yamaha)
- Certified Technician designation, Red Seal, or equivalent trade certification
- Welding and fabrication skills
- WHMIS and pesticide handling certification
What We Offer
- $60,000 – $70,000 annually, with the starting rate set by your experience and skill level
- Full-time, permanent position
- Health and dental benefits
- Golf privileges and staff pricing on merchandise
- A well-equipped shop and real ownership over how it runs
- A small, supportive team where your work is visible every single day
Schedule Full-time hours. Early starts are the norm during the golf season (April through November), with some weekend and holiday coverage required during peak periods. Winter months focus on the off-season overhaul program with a more regular schedule.
