About The Company The Uptown Rutland Business Association (URBA) is a nonprofit business improvement association representing over 220 businesses in the Uptown Rutland area of Kelowna.

For more than 20 years, URBA has worked to promote economic development, business advocacy, and community revitalization by supporting a vibrant, safe, and prosperous business district. In addition to levy funding from the municipality, the organization secures revenue through grants, sponsorships, service contracts, partnerships, and community events.

The Role The Executive Director will provide strategic and operational leadership for URBA, working closely with the Board of Directors to advocate for the Uptown Rutland business community and drive economic growth.

The role oversees a team of four staff members while leading organizational strategy, stakeholder engagement, governance, community partnerships, and revenue development.

Key Responsibilities

Executive Leadership

- Lead the day-to-day operations of the organization.
- Partner with the Board of Directors to execute URBA's strategic vision.
- Provide leadership and direction to a team of four staff members.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performing organizational culture.

Governance & Strategy
- Support Board governance and strategic planning.
- Advocate for the interests of the Uptown Rutland business community.
- Develop initiatives that strengthen economic development and business vitality.

Community & Stakeholder Engagement




- Build relationships with business owners, government agencies, community organizations, and funding partners.
- Represent URBA within the local business community.
- Promote collaboration among key stakeholders.

Revenue Development
- Identify and secure additional funding opportunities through:

- Grants

- Sponsorships

- Partnerships

- Service contracts

- Community events
- Support the organization's long-term financial sustainability.

Qualifications Required

- More than 5 years of progressive leadership experience.

- Experience in

- Strategic planning

- Organizational development

- Community engagement

- Revenue generation
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to advocate, negotiate, and build partnerships across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Self-starter with robust organizational and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred

- Knowledge of the Rutland business community.
- Residency in or near the Rutland area.
- Combination of relevant education and leadership experience.

Compensation

- Annual salary: CAD $70,000–$80,000 (0.8 FTE).
- Comprehensive benefits package.

Time Commitment
- Part-Time (0.8 FTE).
- Monday to Friday, with occasional early mornings, evenings, and weekends as required.

Work Arrangement
- Remote until permanent office space is established.
- Regular in-person presence required within the Rutland community of Kelowna.
