FAMILY PHYSICIAN BUDDY / MENTOR – A FEW HOURS PER WEEK FOR 3–6 MONTHS, TO COACH A NEWLY ARRIVED FAMILY PHYSICIAN IN TORONTO If you are an experienced family physician who enjoys mentoring colleagues, sharing knowledge and helping other doctors succeed, this opportunity might be well suited to you.

We are looking for an experienced Ontario family physician based in Toronto or the GTA to mentor and support one physicians who is newly arriving in Toronto and beginning her family medicine careers in Canada. This is a very flexible commitment of around a couple of hours per week for a period of 3 to 6 months. This is a versatile, part-time role requiring only a few hours per week.

It could particularly suit a physician who likes the idea of contributing to increasing family medicine capacity in Canada and helping make the transition into Canadian practice faster, easier and more welcoming for internationally trained physicians.

IMPORTANT: This is a mentorship role, not a formal supervisory role. You would not be acting as the physician's formal clinical supervisor, practice supervisor or regulatory supervisor.





The role is intended to be much closer to that of an experienced senior colleague or “senior buddy” who can help a physician navigate the practical realities of starting a family medicine practice in Ontario. The physicians being mentored remain professionally responsible for their own clinical decisions and practice. WHAT YOU WOULD DO

You would provide informal, practical mentorship during the physician's transition into Ontario family medicine. This would involve:

A few online meetings before the physician arrives in Toronto

One or two face-to-face meetings when they arrive

Being available for occasional short questions or calls (via WhatsApp, phone or video) during the first three months after their arrival WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We would ideally like to hear from a physician who:

Is an experienced family physician practising in Toronto or the GTA

Has strong practical knowledge of the Ontario primary care system

Is interested in improving how internationally trained physicians are welcomed and integrated into Canadian healthcare

No previous experience as a trainer or mentor is required

Time commitment: We envisage this as a very flexible commitment of around a couple of hours per week for a period of 3 to 6 months. The arrangement can also be terminated at any time.
