Who We Are: Ktunaxa Kinbasket Child & Family Services (KKCFSS) is a non-profit Indigenous Child and Family Service Agency governed by a Board of Directors represented by ʔakisqnuk, ʔaqam, yaqan nuʔkiy (Lower Kootenay Band), yaqit ʔa·knuqⱡiʾit (Tobacco Plains Band), Shuswap Band and the Métis Nation BC. KKCFSS programs and services are available to Ktunaxa citizens, First Nations, Métis and Inuit living on and off-reserve in Ktunaxa ʔamakʔis (Traditional Territory).

The Opportunity: The Family Support Worker provides culturally grounded, strengths-based, hands-on support to Indigenous children, youth and families to promote safety, wellness and connection to family, community and culture. This role focuses on early intervention, family preservation and building capacity through direct support, referrals, advocacy and education.

This position plays an important role in strengthening families and supporting children and youth to remain connected to their culture, community and supports.

In the Role as Family Support Worker, You Will:

- Provide 1:1 support to children and youth and facilitate group-based cultural, wellness and life skills programming.




- Conduct needs assessments to identify strengths, risks and service needs for individuals and families.
- Support the development and implementation of Family Support Plans.
- Implement strategies aligned with family-identified goals and cultural values.
- Support family preservation and reunification efforts through direct service, referrals and coordination.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners including child and family service providers, schools and health professionals.
- Advocate for children, youth and families within social and health systems.
- Make referrals and support access to appropriate community programs and services.
- Complete regular home visits and travel throughout Ktunaxa ʔamakʔis to support families.
- Assist in planning and delivering workshops, cultural activities, and family wellness events.
- Maintain accurate, timely and confidential client documentation in accordance with agency and legal standards.
- Participate in team meetings, supervision and training opportunities.

What You Will Bring to the Role:

Education and Experience:

- Two-year diploma in Human Service Work, Early Childhood Education or a Certificate in Social Work
- Minimum two (2) years of experience working with children, youth and families, preferably in community or social services

Skills and Abilities:

- Working knowledge of child development and family dynamics
- Experience supporting families experiencing risk or complex challenges
- Knowledge and application of trauma-informed, strengths-based and culturally secure practices
- Sound understanding of Indigenous history, issues and current realities in BC and Canada
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with a high level of discretion
- Ability to respond to disclosures of abuse with sensitivity, professionalism and adherence to reporting requirements
- Strong ethical decision-making skills and ability to navigate complex family situations
- Excellent communication,



interpersonal and relationship-building skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team setting
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
- Self-directed, flexible and adaptable with a high level of initiative
- Valid driver’s license, clean driver’s abstract, and access to a reliable vehicle for work purposes
- Ability to travel regularly throughout Ktunaxa ʔamakʔis
- Ability to work a versatile schedule to meet the needs of families and community activities
