Individual Framer — Subcontract

Who we're looking for An HST registered framer for a temporary roll on our crew. Someone with their paperwork in order who can pull their weight, think ahead, and care about the finished product. Not looking for leads or broom pushers. Just dependable carpenters who know their math and can help keep a crew moving.
What you'll do
- Frame walls, floors, roofs, blocking, stairs, and details to spec.
- Follow layout from drawings, pull accurate measurements, cut clean.
- Keep it square, level, plumb, and keep the site tidy.
- Flag issues early to avoid fixing later.
Must-haves (no exceptions)
- HST number, WSIB clearance, and $2M liability insurance.
- Own vehicle. If you don't have a car or truck, this isn't the role.
- Tool pouch and hand tools: hammer, squares, tape, standard framing layout tools. Standard PPE. Power tools (nail guns, saws) are supplied on site — bring your own if you'd rather run your own gear, but it's not required.
- Tickets: Ontario Worker Health & Safety Awareness, Working at Heights, WHMIS (valid).
- Comfortable with fractions and geometry: layouts, rake walls, stairs, roof pitches.
- Fluent English for safety and coordination.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
- 4–7 years in residential framing. Custom homes, laneway, additions ideal.
Nice-to-have (earns you points)
- Reads permit sets and details without hand-holding.
- Spots problems early, brings solutions.
- Plays well with others,
can also work solo without drama.
- Shows up on time, ready to work.
Hard no's
- No vehicle.
- No valid safety tickets.
- No pouch or hand tools.

How you get paid
You'll sign a subcontract agreement covering payment and safety terms. Draws are released on progress, tied to QA checks and proper invoicing formats. Holdback is our problem to handle. You get paid out with your final draw.

Application question(s)
- A house has a 20-foot outside wall-to-outside wall span. The gable roof has a 6/12 pitch and is framed with 2×8 rafters and a single 2×10 ridge board.
A vertical 2×6 supports the underside of the ridge directly above the exterior wall. The HAP is two-thirds of the vertical plumb-cut height of the 2×8 rafter when installed at a 6/12 pitch. What is the required length of the 2×6 gable king stud from the top of the wall plate to the underside of the ridge board?
