Centre is looking for a friendly, organized, and community-minded Front Desk Attendant to join our team. If you enjoy creating welcoming spaces, helping people, and being part of a busy community hub where no two days are the same, we would love to hear from you. Located in the heart of James Bay, our Centre serves children, youth, families, older adults, and community members through a wide range of programs, events, and services.
The Front
Desk attendant plays a key role in ensuring everyone who walks through our doors feels welcomed, supported, and connected.
We acknowledge that our Centre operates on the traditional, unceded territories of the Lekwungen People, represented today by the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations.
About the Role
As the first point of contact for visitors, participants, and community members, the Front Desk Attendant is the face of our organization. Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with program coordinators and staff, you will provide administrative support, customer service, and day-to-day operational assistance that helps keep the Centre running smoothly. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys a variety of responsibilities, thrives in a people-focused environment, and wants to make a meaningful contribution to their community.
Start Date: September 2026, or earlier for the right candidate.
Hours: We anticipate offering approximately 35 hours per week,
with the final schedule to be determined.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome visitors, participants, and community members in a warm and professional manner
- Respond to inquiries in person, by phone, and by email
- Support program registrations, facility rentals, admissions, and special events
- Process payments and maintain accurate records and daily cash balancing procedures
- Provide administrative support to Centre staff and program coordinators
- Maintain computerized records and registration databases
- Assist with opening and closing procedures and help ensure facility security
- Keep the reception area, office, and public spaces organized, clean, and welcoming
- Support room set-up and preparation for programs and rental groups
- Communicate program updates and information accurately to the public
- Assist with fundraising initiatives and community events
- Promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all Centre users
- Other related duties as assigned
What We're Looking For The ideal candidate will bring:
- At least one year of experience in customer service, reception, or administrative support
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
- A warm, approachable,
and helpful attitude
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
- Confidence working independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer systems
- Experience handling records, registrations, and financial transactions
- The ability to interact respectfully with people of diverse ages, backgrounds, and experiences
- A commitment to creating inclusive, welcoming community spaces
Successful candidates must be able to obtain Basic First Aid certification within two weeks of employment and complete a Criminal Record Check. Why Join Us?
