Educational Assistant

Location: Fort McKay, Alberta

Position Type: Full-Time

Birchwood Circle of Care offers Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Psychotherapy and Counselling for children and adults in Fort McMurray. We work as a team to service children with complex needs and their family. We also work in First Nations communities through Jordan’s Principle.

As an Educational Assistant, you will provide services both independently and as a part of a collaborative team. We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and culturally responsive Educational Assistant to join our team in Fort McKay.

Responsibilities

- Provide one-on-one and small group educational support to students in the classroom and community.
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers regarding individual needs.
- Support students in developing academic, social, emotional, communication, and life skills.
- Encourage student independence while providing appropriate guidance and supervision.
- Help manage classroom behaviour and promote a respectful atmosphere.
- Prepare classroom materials and assist with educational programming.
- Observe, document, and communicate student progress with the educational team.
- Promote a safe, inclusive, respectful, and trauma-informed learning workplace.




- Collaborate with other staff members to ensure effective communication and support for all students.

Experience

- Previous classroom experience is preferred, especially in early childhood education or special education settings.
- Experience working with children, particularly those with disabilities or special needs.
- Knowledge of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ADHD, learning disabilities, developmental disabilities, and behavioural support strategies is considered an asset.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with students, teachers and parents.
- A background in teaching or tutoring is advantageous.

Requirements

- Educational Assistant Diploma is required.
- Must have a valid drivers license.
- Be willing to travel and have access to a reliable vehicle.
- Be willing to travel to First Nations Communities
- Be comfortable working in schools, clinic or homes.
- Successful Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check required prior to employment.

Job Type: Full Time PAID Travel Time & Mileage

Salary - $25 - $30 depending on qualifications
