Garrett Contracting Ltd. is a Calgary-based excavation contractor looking for a reliable, hardworking Labourer / Equipment Operator to join our field team.

This is a hands-on position suited to someone who is comfortable working around excavation equipment, isn’t afraid to get out of the machine and work on the ground, and understands that on a smaller crew, everyone pitches in where needed.

Previous experience operating a construction compactor/packer is required.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

- Safely and competently operate a compactor/packer
- Perform general labour duties on excavation and earthworks projects
- Assist equipment operators and other crew members with site work
- Perform hand digging, shovelling, grading and site cleanup as required
- Work around excavators, loaders, skid steers, trucks and other heavy equipment
- Assist with excavation, backfill, compaction and site preparation
- Follow grade and direction from supervisors/operators
- Perform basic equipment checks and report maintenance or safety concerns
- Maintain a clean and safe work area
- Follow Garrett Contracting safety procedures and jobsite requirements
- Be dependable and arrive ready to work on time




- Be physically capable of working outdoors in varying Calgary weather conditions
- Have a valid Class 5 driver’s licence and reliable transportation
- Be comfortable working independently as well as part of a small crew
- Construction/excavation experience is strongly preferred
- Experience operating skid steer, loader, mini excavator or other equipment is an asset
- CSTS, Ground Disturbance, First Aid and other relevant safety certifications are assets

We are looking for someone with a good attitude, common sense and a solid work ethic. Equipment experience matters, but so does being the kind of person the rest of the crew can rely on. This is a full-time position with work primarily in Calgary and surrounding areas. Hours may vary depending on projects, weather and construction schedules, and some overtime may be required.

Compensation:$22 per hour, depending on experience and equipment capabilities.
