JOB OPPORTUNITY

Health Data Engagement Coordinator, Full-time, Hybrid (37.5 hours/week)

Sankewitahasuwakon is a collaborative among First Nations in New Brunswick working towards collective governance and supporting First Nations sovereignty over health systems and health data. The intent is to have an integrated, First Nation-led health system with excellent coordinated planning, design, management, and delivery of health programs.

Working within Sankewitahasuwakon’s Data Governance Office, the Health Data Engagement Coordinator works collaboratively with the Health Data Working Group, Data Manager, health leaders and communities to support meaningful, culturally safe, and community-led engagement related to the development of a First Nations Client Registry in New Brunswick. This role is responsible for planning and delivering engagement activities, gathering and analyzing community feedback, and ensuring community perspectives are accurately reflected in the development of data governance activities.

The Health Data Engagement Coordinator prepares engagement materials, ‘what we heard’ reports, and summaries for the Data Manager, Health Data Working Group, and the leadership. The position plays a key role in fostering respectful, strength-based engagement processes grounded in Indigenous values, and community priorities as they relate to health data access, data needs and community expectations.

Reporting to the Data Manager and supporting data governance within Sankewitahasuwakon, the Health Data Engagement Coordinator is responsible for community outreach and relationship building during the development and implementation of data governance policies, training staff on issues pertaining to data, and collaboration with various interested partners.

Position Overview The ideal candidate carries lived cultural experience, humility, and the ability to walk alongside community in supporting the priorities of health data governance. This position requires a candidate who is comfortable working independently in an evolving workplace, and who is attentive to detail, organized, and skilled in managing multiple projects. This is a community-facing, relational role and is responsible for planning and delivering engagement activities, gathering and analyzing community feedback, and ensuring community perspectives into data governance activities.

The candidate brings strong knowledge of data, technical skills, discretion, and tact, as well as a problem-solving mindset, to support the development and implementation of the Data Governance Model and Framework. The Health Data Engagement Coordinator will work closely with the Data Manager to build data capacity within Sankewitahasuwakon, providing tools and training that support teams to leverage data in their work.

The Health Data Engagement Coordinator is an excellent communicator,



adept at presenting and explaining complex data and information in a explicit, easily understood way. They have a strong ability to translate technical details into accessible language for all audiences. Their thoughtful communication and understanding of First Nation engagement protocols and strategies build trust, foster collaboration, and garner insights and feedback.

Key Responsibilities

1. Assist the Data Manager in co-developing engagement questions and approaches related to the Data Governance Model and Framework, including identifying priorities, raising awareness, and bringing internal and external parties together to achieve the vision of the Data Governance Model and Framework.
2. Engage with leadership and communities in defining community membership to support development of a First Nations Client Registry in New Brunswick.
3. Engage with the leadership and communities in understanding data needs to support the planning and delivery of health programs.
4. Engage with the New Brunswick Department of Health, New Brunswick Health Council, Indigenous Services Canada, and other partners, on behalf of Sankewitahasuwakon to support the development of First Nations-determined indicators of health and wellness.
5. Participate in and report to the Data Manager and Heath Data Working Group.
6. Liaise with other departments of Sankewitahasuwakon.
7. Collaborate with the Communications Lead to ensure engagement materials are aligned with organization standards.
8. Plan, organize, and facilitate community engagement sessions using culturally safe practices.
9. Analyze and synthesize engagement data and provide timely summaries and findings to the Health Data Working Group and Data Manager following each session.
10. Prepare and share clear, accessible ‘what we heard’ reports and to support transparency and accountability.
11. Develop engagement and communication materials, including presentations, discussion guides, surveys, and feedback tools tailored to diverse audiences.
12. Coordinate logistics for community engagement activities, including venue bookings, travel arrangements, honoraria, and other event-related tasks.
13. Build and maintain respectful, trust-based relationships with community members, partners, and leadership.
14. Ensure engagement activities are aligned with Sankewitahasuwakon priorities and support community-led decision-making processes.
15. Assist and mentor First Nations members and communities to build data capacity.

Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development and training.

Education and Experience

1. Post-secondary education in project management, information systems, data analysis, Indigenous studies, law, community planning, community development, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
2. Demonstrated experience supporting community engagement, consultation, or participatory research, particularly with Indigenous communities.
3. Demonstrated understanding of culturally safe, strength-based, trauma-informed, and community-led engagement practices.
4. Lived experience, community knowledge or strong working relationships with Indigenous communities.
5. Understanding of Wabanaki worldview, culture, and history.
6. Understanding of the First Nations health context.
7. Knowledge of or experience with data governance.
8. A strong understanding of the First Nation Principles of OCAP® and Indigenous data sovereignty.
9. Robust experience developing engagement tools, including discussion guides, surveys, and feedback mechanisms.
10. Proven ability to collect, analyze, and summarize qualitative and quantitative data and prepare clear, accessible reports.
11. Experience working with data and data analytical tools.
12. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present findings to leadership, advisory groups, and community members.

Role Qualifications

1. Must have a valid driver’s license.
2. Criminal records check (including vulnerable sector).
3. Strong organizational and logistical coordination skills, including event planning, and travel coordination.
4. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-based environment.
5. Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
6. Strong English written, reading, and speaking proficiency.
7. Proficiency in French is an asset.
8. Ability to speak Wolastoqey or Mi'gmaq is an asset.
9. This role involves frequent travel and time in community, willingness to work flexible hours is an asset.

What We Offer Salary: Starting at $75,000 + Mandatory Employment Related Costs (MERCs), plus benefits.

Remuneration is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
