WillowWood School is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and dedicated High School English Teacher to join our collaborative faculty. The successful candidate will teach English courses and may also provide ESL support to English Language Learners. We are looking for an educator who embraces the belief that every student learns differently and is committed to creating an engaging, supportive classroom where students develop confidence in reading, writing, communication, and critical thinking.
The ideal candidate will have experience with differentiated instruction and supporting diverse learners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons in English Language and English Literature to students across Grades 9–12.
- Develop lessons that align with the school’s curriculum and educational goals.
- Promote a dynamic classroom culture that encourages creativity, discussion, and critical thinking.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback through grading, parent communication, and student conferences and observations.
- Implement principles of Growing Success for assessment and evaluation in Ontario
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance and write reports as required
- Collaborate with colleagues on cross-curricular projects and school events.
- Support the well-being of students by building positive relationships and maintaining high expectations.
- Attend staff meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and school events as required.
- Teach ESL courses or provide language support for English Language Learners, as assigned.
- Differentiate instruction to support students with varying levels of English language proficiency.
- Collaborate with Student Support and classroom teachers to develop strategies that support multilingual learners.
Requirements and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in English and / or Education, or a related field.
- Valid teaching OCT certification
- Proven experience teaching English at the middle or high school level.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Ability to foster strong reading, writing, critical thinking, and communication skills.
- A collaborative mindset and willingness to contribute to the wider school community.
- Experience supporting English Language Learners (ELLs) is considered an asset.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with a range of literary texts and dramatic genres.
- Experience teaching ESL/ELD or supporting multilingual learners.
- Knowledge of language acquisition strategies and differentiated instruction.
- Passion for inclusive, student-centred teaching practices.
