Position Overview The St. George Academy High School Music Teacher will be responsible for delivering an engaging and comprehensive music instruction that fosters students' musical knowledge, creativity, and performance skills. The successful candidate will plan and deliver lessons in accordance with the Ontario Curriculum, assess student progress, and create an inclusive learning environment that encourages artistic expression.
A key aspect of the role is the ability to establish, develop, and direct a student choir, recruiting and mentoring students while preparing them for school events, concerts, competitions, and community performances. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong choral leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging music instruction in accordance with the Ontario Curriculum for Grades 9–12
- Teach music theory,
composition, and appreciation across various genres
- Conduct and supervise school ensembles (e.g., choir, band, small groups)
- Utilize differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of students
- Assess and evaluate student learning using Ministry-aligned strategies and reporting tools
- Collaborate with faculty to support interdisciplinary projects and school events
- Maintain open communication with students, parents/guardians, and school leadership
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience teaching the Ontario Secondary School Music Curriculum
- Proficient in one or more musical instruments; piano or guitar preferred
- Experience conducting choirs or ensembles strongly preferred
- Strong classroom management, organization, and communication skills
