POSITION: Housing Access Worker

JOB TYPE: Full-time Contract – August 2026 to May 2027 (Contract extension pending funding)

SALARY: $51,000 - $56,000.00 yearly

HOURS: Monday to Friday 9:00am – 4:30pm

LOCATION: Bradford Office, with travel to Innisfil, Angus, and Cookstown for community outreach. Some travel to other areas of South Simcoe as needed. Mileage provided at the agency policy rate.

PROGRAM DELIVERY

CONTACT Community Services is seeking a Housing Access Worker to support residents across South Simcoe in securing/maintaining safe, affordable housing. This role provides direct assistance to individuals and families by helping them identify their housing needs, understand available programs, and complete required applications.

The Housing Access

Worker also identifies clients with chronic or complex housing challenges who may require longer‑term support. Core responsibilities include regular follow‑ups and moderate case management, guiding clients through program requirements and ensuring they remain connected to the resources necessary for stable housing.

In addition to the core Housing Access Worker responsibilities, this position also supports the Temporary Family Shelter Program,



providing families with short‑term, intensive case management to help them rapidly secure stable housing.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION INCLUDE:

- Degree or diploma in Social Services preferred, with recent experience supporting marginalized populations.
- Minimum one year of experience promoting housing stability; experience in Addictions, Mental Health, or related fields is an asset.
- Familiarity with South Simcoe communities and the local social services system.
- Knowledge of psychosocial rehabilitation, recovery‑oriented practice, harm reduction, and Housing First principles.
- Strong judgment, problem‑solving abilities, and excellent written and verbal communication skills; proven administrative, organizational, and prioritization skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Understanding of human and legal rights, relevant legislation, and social assistance programs.
- Awareness of First Nation, Métis, and Inuit cultures considered an asset.
- Demonstrated initiative, positive attitude, and commitment to client‑centered service.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to make sound decisions.
- Knowledge of HIFIS (Homeless Individuals and Families Information System) is an asset.
- Valid First Aid, Mental Health First Aid, and Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention certifications.
- Valid G driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO):

- Meet clients in their preferred setting (remote, BWG office, Alliston office, or community locations across South Simcoe).
- Assess housing needs,



support clients in securing appropriate housing, and advocate with landlords as needed in collaboration with the Housing Specialist.
- Provide skill‑building support in budgeting, household management, social skills, and other areas essential for maintaining housing stability.
- Apply working knowledge of the Landlord‑Tenant Act, Ontario Works, ODSP, and related legislation when assisting clients.
- Facilitate access to community resources for basic needs and housing setup, including food, clothing, furniture, transportation, and health or social services.
- Assist clients in accessing financial and support programs such as OW/ODSP, utility relief funds, trusteeship programs, and specialized housing retention funds.
- Attend community meetings and events related to housing and homelessness, as assigned by the Housing Manager or Executive Director.
- Maintain accurate participant records in accordance with standards, regulations, and funder requirements, including timely and complete data entry in HIFIS.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to remain current in relevant practices and legislation.
- Contribute to a positive team setting through active participation in staff meetings, debriefings, retreats, and program activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
