Teaching Position – Prep and Indigenous Support Teacher

School District No. 10 – Arrow Lakes, in the beautiful West Kootenay region of southeastern BC, is situated on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Sinixt, Sylix, Ktunaxa, and Secwepemc Peoples. We have the following temporary contract teaching opportunity for the 2026-2027 school year:

Position: Prep (0.7 FTE) and Indigenous Support (0.3 FTE) Teacher

School: Nakusp Elementary School

FTE: 1.0 FTE Temporary Contract

Effective: September 8, 2026 – June 30, 2027

Salary Range: $67,040 - $119,548

Position Overview

Assignment / Schedule

This position provides targeted support to Indigenous learners through one-on-one and small-group activities. Responsibilities include participating in the District Indigenous Support Committee and providing preparation time coverage for primary and intermediate classroom teachers in Physical Education, Music, and/or other curricular areas.

Required Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

- A valid Teaching Certificate from the BC Teacher Regulation Branch




- Undergrad or postgraduate diploma or coursework in Physical Education, Music, or Indigenous Studies and Aboriginal Education would be an asset
- Interest in engaging and learning from local Elders, Indigenous communities, and Aboriginal Education Councils
- Successful experience co-planning and co-teaching for student success
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills and strengths working within a team environment
- Successful experience integrating socio-emotional learning and self-regulated learning
- Demonstrated understanding of indigenous cultures and experience integrating First Peoples

Principles of Learning into teaching practice
- Commitment to co-developing the School Growth Plan and collaboratively organizing for learning
- Skilled learning inquiry experience that informs professional practice
- Commitment and expertise in building relationships with parents and community
- Willingness to participate in the school's extra-curricular programs will be an asset
