We currently have a need for an Industrial Maintenance Coordinator / Maintenance Technician for our Elmira, Ontario plant. This role is responsible for coordinating and supporting all maintenance activities across the facility, including hands-on troubleshooting, repair, inspection, and preventive maintenance work. The successful candidate may be a licensed millwright, electrician, or another qualified industrial tradesperson, and will work closely with production, supervisors, internal team members, and subcontractors to ensure maintenance work is planned, completed safely, and followed through according to SOPs, regulatory requirements, and business priorities.
You will:
- Be a safety advocate; lead by example by complying with all plant and Occupational Health and Safety policies.
- Work to meet standards of internal quality control systems.
- Proficiently and safely troubleshoot, repair, install, inspect, and adjust mechanical, electrical, and facility equipment in a manufacturing environment, personally completing work where appropriate and coordinating additional support where required.
- Fabricate and install machine guards, guard rails and other non-structural welding.
- Use the computerized work order system to plan, prioritize, track, and report maintenance activities, including documenting completed work, recommending follow-up actions, and coordinating outstanding items.
- Build, qualify, and maintain a practical network of subcontractors and service providers to support maintenance activities that exceed the capacity or trade scope of the maintenance team.
- Coordinate subcontracted maintenance work from request through completion, including defining scope, scheduling work,
arranging access to equipment, confirming safe work practices, and verifying that work is completed satisfactorily.
- Perform general maintenance and repairs while also coordinating planned, preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance work.
- Read and interpret equipment manuals, drawings and work instructions.
- Conduct regular inspections and troubleshoot systems and components as required, working to minimize downtime and ensure issues are escalated, scheduled, or assigned to the appropriate resource.
- Own the preventive maintenance schedule for mechanical, electrical, and facility systems, ensuring inspections and maintenance activities are completed on time by the appropriate internal or subcontracted resource.
- Be versed with pipe cutting, bending and threading equipment, have a good understanding of pumps, valves and applications.
- Have knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems and installations, power transmission systems, chains, belts, gear drives, speed reducers and pulley ratios.
- Have experience in minor plumbing, general repairs and operating / maintaining material handling equipment.
- Primarily work on the day shift, with the flexibility and reliability to adjust working hours when operational issues, equipment downtime, contractor availability, or urgent maintenance needs require support outside normal daytime hours.
You have:
- Industrial trades qualification preferred, such as 433A Industrial Mechanic (Millwright), 309A/442A Electrician, or another relevant industrial trade; equivalent experience in manufacturing maintenance coordination may also be considered.
- Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing setting, continually adapting to change and ability to work under pressure.
- Strong service, troubleshooting and preventative maintenance experience.
- Ability to prioritize maintenance work with input from production, engineering, and operations leaders, balancing safety, uptime, urgency, contractor availability, and long-term reliability.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate work through others, including subcontractors, tradespeople, service technicians, and internal stakeholders.
- Ability and experience in safely rigging and lifting machine components with hoists, chain falls, forklifts etc.
- Basic computer skills and experience using work order systems.
- Strong communication and follow-up skills, with the ability to define work clearly, confirm completion, document issues, and keep stakeholders informed.
- Experience operating forklifts, scissor and boom lifts and other mobile equipment.
