We are currently looking for a driven, detail oriented Jr. Accountant & AP to join Desco and be part of our dynamic team in the Head office (Mississauga, ON).

The Prospect

Reporting to the Controller, the Accountant & Accounts Payable Associate supports the day-to-day accounting operations of the Finance team. This role is responsible for a combination of accounting functions, accounts payable activities, reconciliations, reporting, and financial administration while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely processing of transactions.

- Process and code non-inventory (overhead) invoices accurately and in a timely manner.
- Process inventory invoices using the Mincron AS400 system by matching invoices to purchase orders and receiving documents.
- Monitor the Accounts Payable inbox and distribute or process invoices as required.
- Verify the accuracy and completeness of invoices and supporting documentation before processing.
- Prepare vendor payments, including cheques and electronic payments (ACH), and submit them for approval.
- Reconcile vendor statements, investigate discrepancies, and resolve outstanding issues with vendors and internal stakeholders.
- Ensure invoices are processed within payment terms and maintain accurate electronic records by scanning and filing supporting documentation.
- Process employee expense reports, prepare payment requests, and record the related journal entries.
- Prepare and post journal entries as part of the month-end close process.




- Reconcile assigned General Ledger accounts and investigate variances.
- Prepare monthly financial and operational reports for management and external reporting requirements (e.g., GDI and CIPH).
- Assist with month-end and year-end accounting activities.
- Provide backup support to the Senior Accountant and Accounts Payable team during vacations and absences.
- Support the Controller and Finance team with special projects, process improvements, and other administrative or accounting duties as assigned.

What should you ideally bring to this role

- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Progress toward a CPA designation is considered an asset.
- Experience working with ERP systems (AS400/Mincron experience is an asset).
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, including journal entries and General Ledger reconciliations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including functions such as PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, and formulas.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
