Salary Range or Pay Grade

Assistant Senior Instructional Professor: $115,000 - $145,000; Associate Senior Instructional Professor: $140,000 - $175,000; Senior Instructional Professor: $160,000 - $200,000. This base pay range is for a nine-month academic appointment. Individuals may be eligible for summer salary.

Description The Department of Computer Science at the University of Chicago invites applications for a Senior Instructional Professor (SIP) position that would hold a concurrent appointment as the Associate Academic Director for the Master of Science in Computational Analysis and Public Policy (MS-CAPP). The selected candidate will be appointed as Assistant Senior Instructional Professor, Associate Senior Instructional Professor, or (Full) Senior Instructional Professor, with rank determined by qualifications.

The appointment will be for a term of up to five years, renewable. This is a career-track position with competitive salary and benefits. This position is benefits-eligible. MS-CAPP is a joint program between the Department of Computer Science and the Harris School of Public Policy in which students learn both fundamental concepts and applied skills in computer science, data science, statistics, and public policy. MS-CAPP graduates take on roles as data scientists, data engineers, software engineers, policy professionals, etc in a wide variety of private sector and public sector organizations.





The selected candidate will be an important part of the MS-CAPP leadership team. The person in this role will work with the Director on revising the curriculum in response to rapid changes in technology and on developing new courses as needed. The person in this role is responsible for working with instructors who teach within the program to ensure they are delivering high quality courses that are relevant to the students’ career aspirations, and for recruiting and managing skilled staff.

In addition, this role includes day-to-day management of the program staff, overseeing admissions, overseeing enrollment and faculty support, helping students with career planning, and other duties based on program needs.

The person hired into this role will teach four courses for MS-CAPP and, possibly, one for the Masters Program in Computer Science.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:

- One of the following:
- A doctorate in Computer Science or a related field at the time of appointment; or
- A master's degree and 4 years of relevant professional experience; or
- A bachelor’s degree and 10 years of relevant professional experience.
- At least two years’ experience teaching in a college or university as an instructor of record
- Experience in management of programs, personnel, and/or budgets.

Preferred Qualifications

- Professional experience in public interest technology/civic technology and/or public policy.
