Junior Energy Efficiency and Decarbonization Analyst: Building Performance and Analytics
At Enerlife Consulting, we believe exceptional building performance begins with understanding how building systems actually operate, not just how they were designed.
Our team combines mechanical engineering expertise with building operations knowledge and data analytics to improve the performance of existing buildings. Using building automation system (BAS) data, interval utility meter data, field investigations, and engineering analysis, we identify practical opportunities to reduce energy use, lower carbon emissions, improve occupant comfort, and optimize building performance.
We work with hospitals, municipalities, universities, school boards, commercial real estate owners, and institutional clients. Our projects span recommissioning, building optimization, decarbonization, electrification, controls optimization, and capital planning.
If you're curious about how buildings work and excited about using engineering and data to solve real-world problems, this role is for you.
What you’ll do
Working alongside senior engineers, you will:
- Analyze BAS data, interval utility meter data, and building performance trends to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Evaluate HVAC, hydronic, ventilation, and control systems using engineering analysis, operational data, and field investigations.
- Participate in site assessments, recommissioning projects, and building performance investigations.
- Review BAS trends, sequences of operation, and equipment performance to identify optimization opportunities.
- Assist with energy audits, decarbonization studies, retrofit evaluations, and feasibility assessments.
- Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, data visualizations,
and client presentations.
- Collaborate with clients, facility staff, contractors, and project teams to develop practical engineering solutions.
What you bring
Education and credentials (preferred)
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Eligible for licensure as a Professional Engineer (PEng) in Ontario through Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) or actively working toward licensure.
Experience
- 0–2 years of experience in consulting engineering, HVAC, building operations, commissioning, or energy engineering.
- Relevant co-op or internship experience is considered an asset.
Technical knowledge An interest in building systems is essential, including:
- HVAC and mechanical building systems
- Hydronic and central plant systems
- Ventilation and building automation systems (BAS)
- Controls and sequences of operation
- Building performance analytics and recommissioning
- Energy efficiency and building decarbonization
Experience with the following is considered an asset:
- BAS trend analysis
- eQUEST, IES VE, EnergyPlus, or similar software
- Excel, Power BI, SQL, or Python
- ASHRAE 62.1, ASHRAE 90.1, ASHRAE Guideline 36, CSA Z317.2, and IPMVP
What makes you successful We're looking for someone who:
- Is genuinely curious about how buildings and their mechanical systems work.
- Enjoys understanding HVAC systems, controls,
and building operations.
- Is excited about using BAS data, interval utility meter data, and analytics to solve engineering problems.
- Likes asking "why" and uncovering the root cause of building performance issues.
- Can connect engineering design, controls, operations, and real-world building performance.
- Is comfortable working both in the office and in the field.
- Is analytical, collaborative, and eager to learn.
Why join Enerlife? You'll work alongside experienced engineers on some of Canada's most challenging building performance projects, including hospitals, universities, municipalities, school boards, and commercial buildings.
You'll gain practical experience in:
- Building performance analytics
- Building automation systems (BAS)
- Recommissioning and operational optimization
- Heat recovery and electrification
- Building decarbonization
- Advanced engineering and data analytics
