Junior Landscape Designer
About the Company
YA LIAN Landscaping Inc. is a Mississauga-based company specializing in landscape design. We are seeking a Junior Landscape Designer to assist with the development of practical, attractive and accurately documented landscape design projects.
The successful candidate will work with senior team members on concept development, drawings, material selections, presentations and project documentation. This position is suitable for a candidate building professional experience in landscape design who already has relevant education, training or a design portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Assist with site measurements, site observations and basic site analysis
- Prepare existing-condition drawings, base plans and preliminary layouts
- Assist with landscape concepts, planting plans and hardscape layouts
- Produce and revise two-dimensional drawings using AutoCAD or comparable drafting software
- Assist with three-dimensional models, presentation boards and design renderings
- Research suitable plants, materials, finishes and landscape products
- Prepare plant lists, material schedules and design notes
- Update drawings based on internal reviews and client feedback
- Organize project files, design references, product information and drawing revisions
- Assist with client presentations and preparation of project documents
- Communicate with suppliers and contractors when directed by the project lead
- Participate in local site visits when required
- Check drawings for accuracy, dimensions, consistency and completeness
- Support senior designers and project staff throughout the design process
- Follow company design standards,
project procedures and workplace safety requirements
Required Qualifications
- Diploma, degree, certificate or equivalent training in landscape design, landscape architecture, horticulture, environmental design or a related discipline
- Basic proficiency with AutoCAD or comparable computer-aided design software
- Understanding of landscape plans, dimensions, scale and basic construction documentation
- Ability to communicate design ideas clearly through drawings and presentations
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to revise work based on feedback
- Ability to manage several project assignments and meet deadlines
- Ability to work in person Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Ability to attend occasional project-site visits in the Mississauga area
Preferred Qualifications
- Up to two years of landscape design, drafting, internship or related project experience
- Proficiency with SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, Lumion or other visualization software
- Knowledge of plants and landscape materials suitable for Ontario conditions
- Familiarity with planting plans, grading concepts or hardscape details
- Experience preparing design portfolios, presentation boards or client-facing materials
- A portfolio containing academic, personal, internship or professional design work

Compensation The hourly wage for this position is $27.00–$35.00 per hour. The final rate will be determined within the posted range based on the successful candidate’s education, portfolio, software proficiency and relevant experience.
