About Us:

Calgary Meals on Wheels exists to eliminate food insecurity throughout Calgary and promotes health and independence. Each day approximately 4,500 nutritious meals are produced and delivered through an engaged network of employees, volunteers, and donors.

The Position:

The permanent full-time Kitchen Assistant position is a valuable member of our Production team and is committed to client-centred care, integrity, kindness, quality, respect, and teamwork. This position reports to the Production Manager.

Primary responsibilities are to support Production Kitchen and Meal Assembly in all aspects of regular daily duties. This includes but is not limited to, pot washing, kitchen and equipment cleaning, assisting all Chef’s, Bakers, Stores and Receiving and Meal Assembly pack up area. It includes completing laundry and removing garbage/recycling.

It also includes being a freezer attendant which involves taking weekly inventory of all frozen products, daily FIFO rotation of finished food products, pulling frozen product for tempering, weekly cleaning and organizing of all areas and monitoring the temperatures of all freezers and coolers.

Calgary Meals on Wheels is committed to providing a safe and friendly work environment that supports work-life balance – no evenings or weekends. Hours are Monday to Friday, 6:00AM to 2:00PM.

Qualification and Skills

· Experience working within a kitchen environment

· Ability to lift 40lbs

· Knowledge of WHMIS standards

· Clean police record and Vulnerable Sector Search

· Proficient in spoken and written English

· Great communicator

· Accountable

· Positive attitude

· Determined and well organized

· Excellent time management and multi-task skills

· Banquet or Line cook experience is considered an asset
