Company Description Legal Aid Saskatchewan is a province-wide organization dedicated to providing accessible legal services in criminal and family law matters to financially eligible adult and youth clients. Staff lawyers and administrative teams deliver full representation, duty counsel services at all 74 Provincial Courthouses and circuit points, and legal advice through the Brydges Line for individuals who are arrested or detained, regardless of financial status.

With 14 offices across Saskatchewan, including La Ronge, Legal Aid Saskatchewan operates under The Legal Aid Act and The Legal Aid Regulations as The Saskatchewan Legal Aid Commission. Since 1974, the organization has been a committed supporter of access to justice in the province.

Role Description The Lawyer – La Ronge role is a full-time, in office position based in La Ronge, SK, supporting clients with criminal and family law matters. The lawyer will provide legal representation to financially eligible clients, including preparing and reviewing legal documents, conducting legal research, and managing files from intake through resolution.

Day-to-day responsibilities include advising clients on their rights and options, appearing in Provincial Court and other forums, negotiating resolutions, and participating in duty counsel and summary advice services as needed. The role also involves collaborating with colleagues and community partners,



maintaining accurate records in accordance with Legal Aid Saskatchewan policies, and contributing to initiatives that support access to justice.

Qualifications

- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in criminal law and family law, including courtroom advocacy and file management.
- Strong legal research, analytical, and writing abilities for preparing opinions, submissions, and legal documents.
- Effective client service skills, including clear communication, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work with diverse and vulnerable populations.
- Solid organizational and time-management skills to handle a high-volume caseload and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and build constructive relationships with justice system partners.
- Membership (or eligibility for membership) in good standing with the Law Society of Saskatchewan.
- Commitment to access to justice, public service, and trauma-informed, client-centered practice.
- Willingness to appear regularly in court, travel within the province as required, and adapt to changing operational needs.
- Experience working in legal aid, public defense, or community-based legal services is an asset.
- Proficiency with standard office and legal practice software and electronic file management systems.
