Pentagon Group is currently seeking to hire a safety minded, responsible, professional and reliable Lead Fibre Splicer Technician. The ideal candidates are individuals with 3-5 years in a fibre splicing role, who work can work independently, enjoy working outdoors and who are not afraid of physical labour.

Responsibilities

· Splice and test fiber optic cables in all outside plant applications – aerial, burial and confined spaces, mainline, fibre drops, etc. On both newly placed and existing cables.

· Analyze test results and strong troubleshooting skills to understand and correct any faults or defects.

· Read and interpret work plans, splice logs/packages or job specifications to execute all work assigned safely and in accordance with the Company Health and Safety policy.

· Work outdoors and indoors in various conditions to place and terminate fiber optic cables and related equipment.

· Clean and maintain tools, equipment and maintain sufficient stock levels.

· Accurately record and report project progress to the appropriate supervisor and communicate any issues or expected delays.

· Climb ladders, and work at heights up to and exceeding 30 feet.

· Other duties as required.

Qualifications

· Holds a valid Ontario Driver’s license.





· 3-5 years of splicing experience.

· Able to complete the necessary training as required for First Aid, Working at Heights and confined space, pass the corresponding examinations and receive a client authorization number as required.

· Ability to safely lift up to 80 lbs.

· Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

· Proven ability to interpret/understand construction plans/cable placing and splicing packages.

· Competency with OTDR and other testing protocols.

· Good communication skills with the ability to work independently or in a team environment.

· Demonstrated commitment to health and safety and willing to receive applicable Health and Safety training as per legislative and job requirements.

· Must be able to provide a clear criminal record check and a clean driver’s abstract.

· Available to work evenings, weekends and on call when required.

· Ability to meet physical requirements (bend, sit, lift, and stand for prolonged periods of time).

· Commitment to a safe work culture.

· Experience with Rogers fiber plant considered an asset

· Skilled with a Laptop, Microsoft Outlook, Excel
