Lead Wind Technician

Position Summary The Lead Wind Technician is responsible for supporting the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of a utility-scale wind energy facility. Working closely with the Site Supervisor, this position helps ensure safety, environmental compliance, operational performance, and annual budget objectives are achieved.

The Lead Wind Technician provides day-to-day leadership at the site by coordinating scheduled maintenance activities, directing the work of other technicians, and ensuring maintenance tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

- Help foster a positive, collaborative work environment built on teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Support implementation of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) policies, procedures, and programs to promote a safe workplace.
- Lead and coordinate the daily work of site technicians under the direction of the Site Supervisor.
- Assist with preparing operational reports, equipment documentation, maintenance records, and communications with vendors and service providers.
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of wind turbine systems and related equipment.
- Operate and maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Perform turbine inspections, diagnose faults, clear error codes, and complete corrective repairs.
- Grease and torque wind turbines.
- Change gearbox oil within designated turbine locations.
- Replace mechanical components as required.
- Service blade and hub components.
- Inspect and support maintenance of collector systems, electrical equipment, communications systems, access roads, gates, and other site infrastructure.
- Complete work orders, maintenance documentation, timecards, and related records accurately and on time.
- Maintain professional working relationships with landowners,



contractors, regulatory agencies, and other external stakeholders.
- Provide operational support at other wind and solar facilities as needed, including coverage during employee absences.
- Follow all Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate the organization's core values through daily work.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Maintain zero environmental, health, and safety incidents.
- Help achieve greater than 98% turbine availability while operating within approved budgets.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and operational excellence.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with landowners, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.

Education

Preferred qualifications include one of the following:

- Wind Turbine Technician Certificate
- Technical Diploma
- Mechanical or Electrical Trade Certification

Equivalent combinations of directly related education and relevant experience may also be considered.

Experience

- Minimum five years of wind power experience.
- Previous experience leading or supervising technicians in a maintenance or operations environment.

Skills & Qualifications

- Proven leadership skills, including coaching, mentoring, and conflict resolution.
- Strong technical knowledge of utility-scale wind turbines, their components, operation, and maintenance.
- Experience working around high-, medium-, and low-voltage electrical equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret safety regulations,



operating procedures, service manuals, and technical documentation.
- Ability to read and understand electrical and hydraulic schematics.
- Experience using industry-standard SCADA systems.
- Robust electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
- Familiarity with diagnostic equipment such as multimeters, voltage testers, and related tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Adaptable and flexible in a dynamic work environment.
- Basic understanding of operational budgets and performance metrics.
- High level of integrity and strong work ethic.
- Ability to evaluate technical issues within the broader context of facility performance and business objectives.
- Sound judgment and professionalism.
- Commitment to operational excellence, safety, and continuous improvement.

Job Requirements



- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to travel within Canada and internationally as required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment medical assessment, including drug and alcohol screening.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to safely work at heights exceeding 300 feet and in varying weather conditions when conditions allow.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call rotations.
