Logistics & Safety Coordinator – Heavy Equipment Hauling
Location: Grande Prairie, AB
Job Type: Full-Time
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Logistics & Safety Coordinator to join our heavy equipment hauling team. This position plays a critical role in coordinating the safe and efficient movement of oversized and overweight loads while ensuring compliance with transportation regulations and company safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Schedule and coordinate heavy haul equipment, trucks, trailers, drivers, and operators.
- Plan routes for oversized and overweight loads, including obtaining permits and coordinating escorts when required.
- Communicate daily with drivers, customers, project managers, and dispatch to ensure on-time delivery.
- Monitor fleet movements and adjust schedules to meet changing project demands.
- Maintain accurate dispatch, permitting, inspection, maintenance, and compliance records.
- Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local transportation regulations.
- Coordinate driver files, hours-of-service documentation, and regulatory compliance.
- Lead safety orientations, safety meetings, and ongoing safety training.
- Conduct incident investigations and recommend corrective actions.
- Track vehicle inspections, maintenance schedules, certifications, and safety audits.
- Support the development and implementation of company safety policies and procedures.
- Promote a strong safety culture across all operations.
Qualifications
- Experience in heavy equipment hauling, trucking, logistics, or transportation coordination.
- Knowledge of oversized/overweight load permitting and routing.
- Familiarity with commercial transportation regulations and compliance requirements.
- Understanding of fleet maintenance, inspections, and driver qualification requirements.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and dispatch or transportation management software.
- Knowledge of provincial/state Occupational Health and Safety regulations is an asset.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license (or equivalent); commercial driver's license is considered an asset.
Preferred Experience
- Heavy haul, oilfield, construction, or specialized transportation experience.
- Experience coordinating cranes, excavators, dozers, mining equipment, or other oversized machinery.
- Knowledge of permit systems, pilot/escort vehicle coordination, and route planning.
- Experience with electronic logging devices (ELDs), GPS fleet tracking, and transportation management systems.
