We are seeking an experienced Manager to join our leadership team. This role offers the opportunity to manage client engagements, develop staff, and work directly with partners in supporting the continued growth of the firm.
Position Summary The Manager is responsible for overseeing client engagements, managing staff workflow and performance, reviewing financial statements and tax filings, and maintaining strong client relationships. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical expertise, leadership abilities, and a commitment to exceptional client service.
Key Responsibilities
Client Service & Engagement Management
- Manage a portfolio of private-company and individual clients.
- Serve as the secondary contact for clients regarding accounting, tax, and business advisory matters.
- Review year-end working paper files and financial statements prepared under CSRS 4200, Review Engagement standards, and Canadian ASPE.
- Review corporate, personal, and trust income tax returns.
- Provide proactive tax planning and business advisory services.
- Monitor engagement budgets, timelines, and profitability.
Leadership & Team Development
- Supervise, coach, and mentor CPA students and professional staff.
- Review work prepared by team members and provide constructive feedback.
- Assist with performance evaluations and staff development plans.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and retention initiatives.
- Promote a positive team environment focused on collaboration and continuous improvement.
Practice Management
- Manage multiple engagements simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- Identify opportunities to improve firm processes, efficiency, and service delivery.
- Ensure compliance with professional standards, firm policies, and quality control requirements.
Job Type
Public Accounting
Normal Hours: 8:00 - 4:30 but overtime will be required when the workload is heavy and during tax season (February - April)
Experience requirements
Required
- 5+ years of public practice experience.
- Solid knowledge of:
- Canadian tax legislation
- ASPE
- CSRS 4200 compilation engagements
- Review engagements
- Experience preparing and reviewing corporate and personal tax returns.
- Strong client relationship and communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Preferred
- Experience managing staff and client engagements.
- Familiarity with CaseWare, TaxCycle, QuickBooks Online, and cloud-based accounting platforms.
- Experience with owner-managed businesses, professional corporations, and incorporated entrepreneurs.
- Business development experience would be considered an asset.
