We are looking for a friendly, organized, and patient-focused Medical Office Assistant to join our growing team. We are a modern comprehensive ophthalmology practice dedicated to providing exceptional eye care in a welcoming environment.
As the first point of contact for our patients, you’ll play an important role in creating a positive experience while ensuring the clinic runs smoothly. This position combines front desk responsibilities, patient coordination, and clinical support in a collaborative healthcare setting.
Responsibilities
- Welcome patients and provide a warm, professional first impression.
- Register patients, verify demographic and insurance information, and maintain patient confidentiality.
- Schedule, reschedule, and confirm appointments while optimizing physician schedules.
- Answer incoming phone calls, respond to patient inquiries, and coordinate communication with referring offices.
- Manage electronic medical records accurately and efficiently.
- Process referrals, consults, and other medical documentation.
- Collect payments and assist with administrative tasks as required.
- Prepare patients for examinations by obtaining preliminary information and assisting with patient flow.
- Support physicians and technicians with day-to-day clinic operations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient reception and clinical environment.
- Work collaboratively with the entire team to provide outstanding patient care.
Qualifications We’re looking for someone who is:
- Friendly, compassionate, and professional with excellent customer service skills.
- Highly organized and able to multitask in a fast-paced medical setting.
- Comfortable using computers and learning new software quickly.
- An excellent communicator with strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to maintain strict patient confidentiality.
- Able to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment.
Required:
- Previous experience in a medical office, specialist clinic, or other healthcare setting.
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMRs).
- Strong organizational and administrative skills.
Considered Strong Assets:
- Experience with Plexia EMR
- Previous experience working in ophthalmology or optometry
- Knowledge of ophthalmic terminology and common eye conditions
- Experience acquiring OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) images
- Experience performing visual field testing or other ophthalmic diagnostic testing
- Ability to speak Punjabi in addition to English
