STATUS: 1 year contract

SALARY: $58,000 TO $65,000

Position Summary

WSNCC is seeking a Mental Health Worker who will strengthen and deliver accessible, trauma-informed, and client-centered counselling and support for youth and families experiencing mental health challenges. Reporting to the Program Director, you will carry a direct caseload of youth clients and facilitate workshops, discussions, and psychoeducational sessions that promote youth mental wellness, coping skills, and build community connections.

You will play a key role in strengthening WSNCC’s capacity to deliver mental health services that meet the diverse needs of youth and families in the Scarborough community. Working within a harm reduction and anti-oppressive framework, you will collaborate with internal teams and community partners to enhance WSNCC’s youth mental health supports and initiatives.

Duties

- Provide accessible, short-term, and in-person counselling and support to youth and families facing mental health challenges. Caseload will include direct contact with youth experiencing mental health issues, navigating family dynamics, and helping build positive, healthy self-esteem and relationships.
- Conduct intakes, assessments, and follow-up support plans for youth and families, ensuring timely and accurate documentation.
- Develop individualized support or wellness plans and track client progress.
- Create and facilitate group workshops, peer discussions, and psychoeducational sessions on mental wellness, coping strategies,



healthy relationships, and life skills.
- Provide referrals to community resources for youth and their families.
- Engage and support youth programs that provide life skills development, recreation, leadership opportunities, and youth-focused advocacy.
- Apply trauma-informed, harm-reduction, and anti-oppressive approaches when engaging with youth and families.
- Collaborate with WSNCC staff, placement students, and community partners to ensure coordinated care and effective service delivery.
- Ensure ready access to crisis intervention and suicide prevention support; provide safety planning, and emotional support when required.
- Document, monitor, and report program outcomes, statistics, and impact for agency funder reporting purposes.
- Engage directly with youth, seniors, and community stakeholders to stay informed of emerging needs, local issues, and mental health trends.
- Support and participate inadditional WSNCC divisions’ wellness programs and initiatives.
- Participate in team meetings, supervision, and support agency-wide initiatives, special events and community engagement activities.
- Carry out other duties as assigned to support the effective delivery of mental health and community support programs.

Qualifications





- Post-secondary degree in Social Work, Counselling Psychology or related field and current registration or eligibility for registration with a relevant qualified college or regulatory body (e.g., OCSWSSW, CRPO)
- Relevant experience in counselling and support services with youth and families facing mental health challenges
- Knowledge and application of trauma-informed, harm reduction, and anti-oppressive approaches in counselling
- Understanding of issues related to youth mental health including anxiety, depression, and family or relationship concerns
- Training in crisis intervention, de-escalation, and suicide prevention skills
- Knowledge of community-based resources and referral pathways within Scarborough and surrounding areas
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage youth and community members from diverse populations
- Strong organizational, documentation, and time management skills with attention to detail and confidentiality
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- A passion for community development, mental wellness, and social justice, with a commitment to inclusion, equity, and continuous learning

Work Schedule Monday – Friday. Occasional evenings and weekends for special events.

Terms

This is a full-time, contract position, dependent upon continued funding & job performance. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Pay: $58,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
