MES Functional Analyst– Sustana Sustana is the leading manufacturer of sustainably produced, premium recycled fiber and paper, utilizing post-consumer material to create high-quality, low carbon footprint products. We have 11 different locations across North America in three different segments of the pulp and paper industry (Paper, Fiber and Recovery). Notably in De Pere, Wisconsin, Lévis (Quebec region), and the Montreal region, serving a multitude of customers throughout America.
THE ROLE The MES Functional Analyst will be responsible for ensuring alignment between Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) systems to ensure seamless integration, optimization, and security of critical infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of both IT and OT environments, with the ability to manage and support the technology that powers operational systems such as industrial control systems (ICS), DCS, PLCs, and IIoT devices.
This hands-on role will collaborate directly with the operations team and other cross-functional teams to maintain critical operations.

Key Responsibilities Reporting to the IT Director Enterprise & Manufacturing Applications, the MES Functional Analyst will provide guidance and support on IT/OT infrastructure and tools.
More Specifically
- Support day-to-day Operations from Technology perspectives by providing technical support for OT systems and applications, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring system uptime.
- Process incoming requests for new equipment acquisition to ensure the selection meets the pre-established criteria for secure and smooth integration into the ecosystems.
- Ensure OT systems comply with internal policies.
- Monitor the performance of OT systems to ensure they operate at optimal levels.
- Perform regular system updates, patches, and configuration changes as necessary to maintain security and performance.
- Assist in identifying opportunities for operational improvements through automation and data analytics.
- Support the development of OT-related documentation, including system architecture diagrams, process flows, and troubleshooting guides.
- Lead or participate in OT-related projects, from design and planning through implementation and testing.
- Manage the implementation of new technologies and upgrades, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret operational data from OT systems to provide actionable insights that drive improvements.
- Generate regular reports on system performance, uptime, and security metrics for stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Degree in electrical engineering,
Industrial Automation, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial system operations, ideally supporting industrial automation within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong communication skills in both English and French.
- Solid knowledge of Data Historian and Analytics platforms (e.g., PI, PARCview).
- Strong experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) such as Magiq Elixir and Sage, as well as Quality Information Systems like QIS and MOPS.
- Proficiency with OT technologies including DCS, PLCs, industrial IoT devices, and monitoring systems.
- Strong understanding of IT systems, including networking, databases, and cloud platforms.
- Familiarity with enterprise applications such as ERP and MRP.
- Understanding of cybersecurity tools and principles (e.g., firewalls, intrusion detection, SIEM).
- Knowledge of manufacturing equipment, processes, and enterprise production environments.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Other Information The MES Functional Analyst will primarily work in an office setting but may require site visits to various locations. Occasional travel may be necessary in Canada and the United States.
