Title Operations Technician – temporary contract for 6 months

Reports To: Facilities Manager

GRADE: Hourly - $18.40 per hour

CLOSING DATE:Noon on Friday, August 21, 2026

Position Summary The Operations Technician monitors, maintains, and troubleshoots equipment to ensure protected, efficient, and compliant operations of the Museum’s properties. They also work with museum teams for day-to-day operation, event set-up including moving tables and chairs and pre-setting audiovisual equipment.

The Operations Technician is an important team member who helps provide safe and visitor-centric experience for Museum patrons. This position encompasses various duties from daily building maintenance to internal events and assisting with staff requests.

The anticipated schedule for this role is Saturday to Wednesday, 9:30am to 5:30pm (morning and afternoon hours may vary).

Responsibilities

- Interact in a professional and respectful manner with staff, volunteers, public and clients as required.
- Set up and ‘take down’ of all needed tables and chairs for rental events and museum programs when an outside contractor has not been contracted.
- Set up and 'take down' of all needed audio equipment for Museum programs when an outside contractor has not been contracted.
- Monitor, operate, and maintain computer-controlled systems that adjust building temperature.
- Assist with routine maintenance, repairs and perform preventative maintenance duties.




- Lift and move furniture within building.
- Adjust audio levels and audio sources.
- Pre-set and troubleshoot house lights and stage lights.
- Assist in the scheduling of projects and work arrangements to provide minimum interference with operational duties and assignments.
- Assist with internal events, including load ins and outs & set ups as required (including working. weekends, evenings and holidays).
- Identify and address facilities issues.
- Follow safety protocols.
- Assist Exhibition Technician by identifying technical issues in Exhibit spaces.
- Additional tasks as required.

Skills and Qualifications –Required

- Able to communicate and write in basic English or basic French.
- Able to work independently or under supervision.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions involved in general building and maintenance work

Skills and Qualifications –Desired

- Experience in Audio/Visual equipment and A/V set up.
- Experience in maintenance skills, such as painting, minor drywall repair and basic plumbing etc.
- Working Conditions & Physical Demands
- Standing and walking when performing maintenance and event set-ups.
- Lifting and moving chairs, tables and other Audio/Visual equipment up to 100 lbs.
- Work safely from a ladder.
- Willingness to take additional safety training as required

This role is temporary for 6 months and the rate of pay is $18.40 per hour.
