Part-Time PCB Designer / Electronics Designer – OrCAD

We are looking for an experienced Part-Time PCB Designer / Electronics Designer with a strong electronics background to support the development of industrial electronic products and control systems.

The ideal candidate should be comfortable taking a project from electronic schematic development through PCB layout and production-ready documentation, with strong hands-on experience using Cadence OrCAD.

Position

Part-Time PCB Designer / Electronics Designer

Hours: 8–24 hours per week

Compensation: $25–$30 per hour, depending on experience

Schedule: Flexible / Part-Time

Responsibilities

- Design electronic schematics using OrCAD Capture
- Design and modify PCB layouts using OrCAD PCB Editor / Allegro
- Develop 2-layer and multilayer PCB designs
- Select electronic components based on performance, availability, reliability, and cost
- Create and maintain component libraries, footprints, and schematic symbols
- Review existing PCB designs and recommend improvements
- Perform schematic and PCB design reviews
- Design circuits involving:
- Microcontrollers
- Sensors
- Pumps, valves, motors, and other electromechanical devices
- Power supplies and power distribution
- Analog and digital electronics
- Communication interfaces
- Industrial control electronics
- Consider EMI/EMC, grounding, power integrity, signal integrity, thermal management, and manufacturability during PCB design
- Work with mechanical designers to ensure PCB dimensions, mounting holes, connectors, and component locations fit the mechanical assembly
- Prepare complete manufacturing packages including:
- Gerber files
- Drill files
- Pick-and-place files
- BOM
- Assembly drawings
- Fabrication drawings
- Schematic PDFs
- Assist with prototype assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and debugging
- Work with PCB manufacturers and suppliers when required
- Update designs based on prototype testing and engineering feedback





Required Qualifications
- Strong practical background in electronics and electronic circuit design
- Proven PCB design experience
- Strong working knowledge of Cadence OrCAD
- Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout
- Good understanding of analog and digital electronics
- Understanding of power supply and power distribution design
- Ability to read datasheets and select suitable electronic components
- Understanding of PCB manufacturing and assembly requirements
- Ability to troubleshoot electronic circuits and PCB prototypes
- Ability to work independently and complete assigned projects on schedule
- Good documentation and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications Experience with any of the following would be considered an asset:
- Embedded systems and microcontrollers
- STM32, ESP32, ARM, or similar platforms
- FPGA-based electronics
- Motor, pump, solenoid, or valve control
- Pressure, flow, temperature, and level sensors
- Industrial automation and control systems
- RS-232, RS-485, CAN, Ethernet, USB, I²C, SPI, and UART
- DC/DC converters and industrial power electronics
- Design for EMC/EMI compliance
- Prototype debugging using oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, and other electronic test equipment
- Experience preparing designs for volume production

What We Are Looking For We are looking for someone who is more than simply a PCB layout technician. The successful candidate should have a strong understanding of electronics and be able to understand how a circuit works, identify potential design problems, recommend solutions, and help bring a product from concept through prototype and production.

This is a good chance for an experienced electronics designer looking for flexible part-time engineering work and involvement in practical industrial product development.

Pay: $25–$30/hour

Expected hours: 8–24 hours per week

Pay: $25.00-$30.00 per hour
