The Opportunity A key part of the team, Gradient has an immediate opening for a Product Development Engineer – Mechanical, in our research and development department. This critical, hands-on role effectively drives the delivery of continuous product improvement of Gradient’s high-efficiency heating products to the high-quality standard we commit to our customers. As a member of the growing business, contribution to the efficiency and innovation culture is essential.

The right candidate for this position will be a highly motivated, and a self-starter ready to roll-up their sleeves and take on a variety of activities to advance and grow with the business, with an entrepreneurial mindset.

GENERAL DUTIES:

- Develop new products and participate in all phases of product development including research, design, testing, certification, production, and marketing.
- Create technical documentation including project plans, test procedures, design documents and drawings, bills of material, routings, work instructions, etc.
- Define build, testing, quality control processes.
- Product life-cycle management.
- Source prototype components, materials, evaluate and select keys suppliers for both new and ongoing manufacturing.
- Identify, resolve, and document product issues based on customer feedback, prior product updates,



and in-house testing.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve assembly, programming, testing and related issues.
- Test, debug and verify products through the assembly process, from sub-assemblies to finished goods. • Prototype and test all designs using a systematic testing plan.
- Lead innovation, new product and service development and continuous improvement.
- Lead root-cause analysis.
- Work to good industry standards.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment and contribute to a lean culture through participation in ideas and initiatives.
- Take on various other activities as assigned to advance and grow with the business, with an entrepreneurial and owner’s mindset.
- Promote, maintain, and model a safety culture, including maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
- Dedication to customer service through timely completion of responsibilities and unwavering commitment to quality.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Professional Engineer designation in mechanical, industrial or mechatronics engineering.
- 5+ years’ experience in developing products.
- Experience setting up and building test systems for product validation testing.
- Experience setting up DAQ and automated data capture systems.
- Excellent 3D design experience in Solidworks platform.
- Excellent software and PC knowledge.
- Displays strong acumen in design, quality, process improvement,



and business, or a willingness to learn. Detail-oriented with strong organization and prioritization skills.
- Good written and verbal communication abilities.
- A robust team player who can collaborate to create value and has the willingness and acumen to grow with the company.
- Customer driven and laser-focused on delivering value.
- Entrepreneurial, willing to bring an owner’s-mindset to activities.
- Leads by example.

BONUS QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience designing burners and combustion systems.
- Experience with Labview and Mathcad.
- Training in lean manufacturing, experience implementing lean design principles.
- Experience with controls systems would be an asset.
- Hands on test, calibration and troubleshooting experience are considered assets.
- Experience with HVAC, gas equipment and plumbing are all considered assets.
- IT support with Microsoft Suite experience an asset.
