The Elizabeth Fry Society of Northern Alberta (EFry) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and empowering women, girls, and gender-diverse folks who are criminalized or at risk. EFry provides programs and services that address the root causes of crime, promote healing and reintegration, and strengthen community safety.
Position Summary
EFry is seeking to hire a Employment Program Coordinators based in Fort McMurray and surrounding rural areas to support the safe integration of at-risk women and gender-diverse individuals into society by assessing and developing their employability, and providing employment support, training, and workshops.
The Employment Coordinator will work closely with clients in Fort MacMurray and the surrounding communities, guiding them in building job readiness skills and addressing barriers to employment. This role includes a variety of support services such as workplace simulations, resume writing, interview coaching, job placements, and follow-up services.
Key Responsibilities
Client Support & Job Readiness:
-Assist women and gender-diverse folks in identifying individual barriers to employment, personal strengths, and career goals.
-Develop a collaborative, achievable action plan (service plan) tailored to the client’s specific needs.
-Provide one-on-one resume development, life skills sessions, and access to job readiness workshops.
-Conduct workplace simulations to teach essential skills, including communication, teamwork, and problem-solving,
preparing clients for real-world work environments.
-Support women in the Record Suspension & Housing processes, assisting them in overcoming the barriers related to criminal records, safe and secure housing, and securing better employment opportunities.
-Advocate for clients on issues related to Employment Standards, Human Rights, and reintegration.
-Broker services by referring women and gender-diverse individuals to training programs, educational institutions, and community resources addressing basic living needs.
Group Work & Workshops:
- Identify and develop new program initiatives and workshops tailored to women’s employment and pre-employment needs. -Facilitate and co-facilitate group workshops both in person and virtually, covering topics such as job readiness, life skills, and employment rights.
-Establish partnerships and collaborations with other agencies, training programs, and community resources.
Community Engagement and Reporting:
- Network with community agencies, EFry coordinators, and stakeholders to support collaboration and referrals.
- Participate in community and interagency meetings to stay current on local resources.
- Track outcomes and submit monthly statistical reports.
- Assist with program evaluation and improvement initiatives.
- Attend EFry team meetings, events,
and agency priorities as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Human Services, Sociology, Criminology, Psychology, or a related field. We honor and appreciate equivalencies.
- 3–5 years’ experience in a professional or community-based role, preferably within the non-profit sector.
-Strong base of cultural competence, Indigenous worldviews, and Two-Eyed Seeing.
- Solid understanding of financial literacy topics including budgeting, credit, debt management, and tax filing.
- Knowledge of federal and provincial income supports and community benefit programs.
- Excellent communication, organization, and facilitation skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with a regional team.
- Valid driver’s license, vehicle, and proof of insurance required.
- Must be eligible for a security clearance.
- Flexibility to work some evenings or weekends as needed.
