Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Manager of the Developmental Disabilities Mental Health (DDMH) program, the Psychologist I is an integral member of the DDMH multi-disciplinary team. The Psychologist provides an advanced level of clinical and specialized psychological practice that will improve the community care of individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health disorders and/or challenging behaviours (complex service needs). The Psychologist will provide care for individuals across the Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) continuum through clinical practice providing individual therapy, developing and facilitating groups and providing staff training and development as required. The Psychologist I will also provide comprehensive clinical behavioural support and consultation to AHS and PDD staff as required. The Psychologist will assist with best practices implementation, process improvements and program development for the DDMH Mental Health Support Team. This position will require the incumbent to have specialized clinical knowledge, a breadth of experience and credibility within the developmental disability and mental health field, and expertise in clinical care within the developmental disability sector. The successful candidate must have the ability to communicate with multiple teams and stakeholders across the sector effectively.

Description:

As a Psychologist I, you will work with or within teams to provide a range of standard level psychology services to patients and their families within the established standards, directives, and policies for the work environment.



Your services may include psychological screening and/or assessment, diagnosis, interventions, rehabilitation, prevention and promotion, as well as educational activities. You will collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team of healthcare professionals in planning and implementing services that align with best practices and ethical and qualified standards. You will provide input to the interprofessional team related to psychological factors, barriers and dynamics that influence client treatment planning, participation, outcomes and team functioning, and consult and collaborate with teams and community services. Your duties may also include providing supervision to psychometrists, provisional psychologists and/or masters level psychology students, and providing input into program, policy and/or procedure development in addition to participating in formal research initiatives.

Required Qualifications: Master's degree in Psychology in an applied area relevant to the practice setting from an accredited university program. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Must have a minimum of two years’ experience working as a therapist for individuals with developmental disabilities and dual diagnosis. The successful candidate will have the knowledge and expertise to deliver effective psychotherapeutic interventions (e.g. EMDR, CBT) to individuals with intellectual disabilities in the areas of trauma, anxiety, depression and other mental health disorders.

Must have excellent analytical, problem-solving, critical thinking and decision-making skills and the ability to thoroughly and accurately collect and document information in a professional and timely manner. Must also have the ability to work confidently and independently, be self-directed, have a client-focused orientation and commitment to providing quality services. Effective communication, computer skills, interpersonal and organizational skills are position requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to applicants with community support experience within the Persons with developmental disability (PDD) sector and working directly with individuals with developmental disabilities. Preference will also be given to applicants experienced with psychosocial rehabilitation, applied behavioural management strategies (positive approaches), and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention. Knowledge of addiction and mental health services, and community resources.
