About Us The Courage Centre is committed to supporting individuals and families affected by gender-based violence. We provide compassionate, trauma-informed, and client-centered services that promote safety, healing, and empowerment.

Paula’s place is a safer home program delivered by the Courage Centre which provides temporary emergency shelter and comprehensive support services to survivors of domestic violence along with their children. The residential programprovides emergency shelter, advocacy, and support services to individuals and families experiencing domestic and intimate partner violence. Our mission is to provide a safe, supportive, and empowering environment where clients can begin rebuilding their lives through trauma-informed, client-centered services.

Position Summary The Case Manager provides comprehensive case management services to shelter residents, supporting individuals and families as they work toward safety, stability, and independence. This position works collaboratively with clients to assess needs, develop individualized service plans, coordinate access to community resources, and provide ongoing advocacy and emotional support.

The successful candidate demonstrates compassion, sound judgment, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and survivor-centered practice.

Key Responsibilities

- Complete comprehensive client assessments and collaboratively develop individualized service plans.
- Provide risk assessment, crisis intervention, emotional support, advocacy, and ongoing case management.
- Assist clients with safety planning, goal setting, and discharge planning.
- Support clients in accessing housing, income assistance, legal services, healthcare, counselling, employment, education, and childcare resources.
- Advocate on behalf of clients with community agencies and government services.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential client records, case notes, and documentation.




- Monitor client progress and regularly review service plans.
- Collaborate with Courage Centre staff and community partners to coordinate services and referrals.
- Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and professional development opportunities.
- Support shelter operations as needed, including responding to crises and maintaining a safe environment.
- Promote client empowerment while respecting individual choices and confidentiality.
- Ensure services comply with organizational policies, ethical standards, and relevant legislation.

Qualifications

Required

- Diploma or bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience providing case management or direct client services, preferably in domestic violence, gender-based violence, homelessness, mental health, addictions, or crisis services.
- Knowledge of domestic and intimate partner violence, trauma-informed practice, and strengths-based approaches.
- Experience conducting assessments, developing service plans, and coordinating community supports.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, conflict resolution, and advocacy skills.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and documentation abilities.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic case management systems.
- Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation (if required).
- Successful Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.

Preferred

- Fluent in both official languages (written and spoken)
- Knowledge of local housing resources, legal systems, and community support services.




- Experience working with diverse populations, including Indigenous Peoples, newcomers, LGBTQIA2S+ individuals, persons with disabilities, and rural communities.
- Training in suicide intervention, risk assessment, de-escalation, motivational interviewing, or non-violent crisis intervention.

Working Conditions

- Working hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm.
- Some evening or weekend hours may be required, on occasion.
- Position may involve responding to clients experiencing crisis or high-stress situations.
- Occasional local travel for appointments, meetings, or community outreach may be required.
