Location: 148 Waterloo Street, Saint John, N.B.

Position Title: Residential Care Worker

Purpose of the Position The residential care worker position is responsible for the daily operation of the residence which includes the primary duty for intensive support and supervision of conditionally released female offenders in a therapeutic manner in accordance with the Correctional Service of Canada CBRF standards, Public Safety standards, Court instructions and the philosophy/mission of Coverdale Centre for Women Inc.

Education/Experience

- high school completion and/or recognition two (2) years of post secondary schooling in the area of Human Services or Criminal Justice Training is desirable
- one year of experience providing supervision and therapeutic support in a community based residential home would be an asset
- experience and sensitivity regarding issues relating to justice involvement, learning disabilities, homelessness, poverty and addiction
- you must have the ability to demonstrate cultural competence and respect for diversity
- First aid/CPR with required re-certification is a condition for all front-line staff positions
- active participation in and willingness to complete the following:

o non violent crisis intervention and/or MANDT o Mental Health First Aid o maintaining boundaries o prevention of abuse o report writing o Naloxone o Changing Minds

Additional Requirements:





- willingness to work weekends and holidays
- ability to climb stairs, stock shelves with heavy or bulky items
- participate in light household chores
- occasional exposure to communicable diseases

- successful completion of a thorough criminal record check, and Social Development check

Desirable personal attributes

- good interpersonal and organizational skills that contribute to supervising clientele and dealing effectively and professionally with their families, helping professionals and the community

- ability to follow set Policies & Procedures and routines as part of a multi disciplinary team that promotes a safe and securing living workplace
- ability to anticipate and recognize problems, deal with disruptive behaviour, provide disciplinary actions and use crisis intervention techniques and reporting protocols as situations arise
- ability to support parolees and their families in a professional manner, form effective relationships and gain trust

- proficient in oral and written communication skills, including the ability to utilize the available technology
- ability to provide general housekeeping, meal preparation, laundry and minor home repair.
- ability to effectively set and maintain professional boundaries.

Pay: $20.00 per hour
