Double Take Thrift Store is a Yonge Street Mission social enterprise that is committed to both serving the community and lowering its environmental footprint. Located in the downtown east end of Toronto, we work to provide a dignified and enjoyable shopping experience to a diverse group of customers.

Double Take is seeking a part-time Retail Store Shift Supervisor (15-30hrs/wk) to provide excellent service to customers and donors, perform store opening and closing procedures, act as a keyholder and assist with the maintenance of safe and efficient store operations (between 9am and 8:30pm). The ideal candidate will be passionate about social change and community empowerment in line with Double Take’s values, and possess the communication skills to effectively work alongside colleagues and volunteers.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Assistant Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

- Ensure excellent customer service
- Assume responsibility for all keys provided to you and ensure their safety
- Ensure alarm code information remains confidential and is not divulged to anyone
- Perform store opening and closing procedures, both weekdays and weekends
- Communicate all product shortages with backroom staff and fill accordingly
- Follow up with manager and/or assistant manager with any staff or customer concerns
- Ensure all policies and procedures are followed
- Assist with all necessary store functions as deemed by manager or assistant manager
- Assist customers on the sales floor with either shopping or connecting with relevant services in the community
- Address issues of shoplifting with a firm but compassionate approach through a trauma-informed perspective
- Keep sales area neat, clean and orderly
- Help with training, mentoring and coaching of new sales associates, when requested and required




- Help with general maintenance and keeping the store clean
- Occasionally assist the online fulfillment team when asked management

Qualifications: The successful candidate will have the following skills and training:

- Proven experience as a shift supervisor or any relevant leadership experience
- Experience with community work and de-escalation, particularly as it relates to folks dealing with addictions and mental health difficulties
- Excellent communication and active listening skills
- Superior customer service skills
- Ability to understand and follow written or verbal instructions
- Excellent organizational & problem solving skills
- Knowledge of fashion brands and trends
- Ability to work in a Team environment with cooperative principles
- Capable of working independently with enthusiasm & initiative
- Good command of the English language
- The ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. to lift and move boxes and bags of donations
- Demonstrated commitment to YSM’s/Double Take’s mission and values
- Computer experience is an asset, particularly with Microsoft Word and Google Docs
- Ability to work flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends; a police check will be required
