THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking a practical, field-oriented Safety Coordinator to support our surface and underground diamond drilling operations. Based in Timmins, this role works closely with workers, supervisors, management, and contractors to strengthen regulatory compliance, verify critical controls, and promote consistent safe-work practices across the organization.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of health and safety policies, programs, procedures, and field-level tools.
· Conduct workplace inspections, observations, audits, and risk assessments for surface and underground drilling activities; document findings and follow corrective actions through to completion.
· Assist supervisors and crews with hazard identification, job planning, safe-work procedures, and verification of life-critical controls.
· Coordinate and deliver employee safety orientation, toolbox talks, refresher training, and other required training; maintain accurate training records.
· Participate in incident, near-miss, and hazard investigations, including evidence collection, causal analysis, corrective-action development, and follow-up.
· Maintain health and safety records, statistics, inspection reports, incident files, and other documentation required by company standards and applicable legislation.
· Provide practical guidance to management and supervisors on safety concerns, regulatory requirements, and corrective actions.
· Support emergency preparedness, drills, and response planning, including remote and field-operational considerations.
· Promote a respectful, prevention-focused safety culture through visible field engagement, coaching, and effective communication.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
· Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health and Safety,
or a related discipline is preferred; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
· Previous experience as a Safety Coordinator, Health and Safety Representative, or in a comparable field safety role.
· Working knowledge of Ontario health and safety legislation, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable mining requirements, particularly Regulation 854 - Mines and Mining Plants.
· Experience in mining, diamond drilling, mineral exploration, construction, or another industrial field environment is an asset.
· Demonstrated ability to conduct inspections, support investigations, prepare transparent reports, and track corrective actions.
· Strong communication, coaching, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively with field crews and management.
· Sound judgment, attention to detail, and a practical, solutions-focused approach to workplace safety issues.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic safety-management or recordkeeping systems is an asset.
· Fluency in English and French is required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
· This is a full-time, in-person position based in Timmins, Ontario, with a regular Monday-to-Friday schedule.
· The role supports both office and field activities and may require travel to active surface and underground drilling locations.
· Field work may involve exposure to variable weather, uneven terrain, noise, dust, mobile equipment, and other conditions typical of drilling and mining operations.
· The successful candidate must be able to comply with site-access, personal protective equipment, and fitness-for-work requirements.
