The MNIT Agriculture team supports technology critical to ensuring food supply integrity and safety, livestock health, and supporting a vibrant agricultural economy for Minnesota.
This position exists to provide expert technical leadership and expertise in the development and operation of new and existing custom software applications within the Department of Agriculture (MDA).
Responsibilities include leading the MNIT development team in the maintenance, administration, and enhancement of the Salesforce Customer Relationship Management system and the associated system modernization, a cloud hosted, serverless platform, custom built application based on modern development techniques, methodologies, and technologies for the Department. This position also includes additional non-salesforce architecture design, development and execution as needed and prioritized by the MDA and MNIT leadership.
This role involves conducting analyses, programming, documentation, testing, installation, and training to successfully complete the modules or application, as needed and prioritized by the MDA and MNIT leadership.
As a senior-level expert, the developer will provide guidance in application design and architecture, ensuring all technical aspects adhere to established standards and protocols. The incumbent will also research emerging technologies and create plans for implementing innovative solutions across the Department of Agriculture (MDA) and the Board of Animal Health (BAH). Serves as a backup to other staff during absences for enterprise and legacy application support.
This Position Requires An Employee To Work Onsite At 625 Robert St, St. Paul, Minnesota. At Least 50% [or More Or Less If Space Limitations Remain] Of The Time, With Limited Telework Available. Telework Eligibility Depends On Residence

Experience Must Include
- Developing and supporting applications using the Salesforce platform and related technologies (e.g., Apex, Lightning, SOQL, Azure).
- Designing, developing, testing, and implementing complex software applications following Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) practices and or utilizing agile team collaboration methods.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills sufficient to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders in business analysis or requirement gathering for complex systems.
- Working with cloud-based platforms and integration technologies (e.g., APIs, Azure services, or middleware tools).
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively in a manner that facilitates mutual understanding.
- Customer-focused approach grounded in active listening, empathy, and solution-oriented problem-solving to deliver positive user experiences.
- Data management, data analysis and or other advanced data experience.
Education in Information Technology (IT) or an IT related field may substitute for experience as follows: a master’s degree for eighteen (18) months of experience; a bachelor’s degree for one (1) year; and an associate’s degree for six (6) months.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced experience developing and administering Salesforce solutions, including Apex, Visualforce, Lightning components, and Flow.
- Experience integrating Salesforce with external systems using REST/SOAP APIs, Azure Data Factory, or other middleware tools.
- Experience with data management processes such as data migration, data cleansing, and data integration.
- Experience with development and collaboration tools such as Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps, or version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Experience with reporting and analytics tools such as Power BI or SSRS.
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership, establish development standards, and mentor team members.
- Artificial Intelligence integration and development.
