Senior Research Assistants are normally graduate students, or University of Winnipeg undergraduate students, employed to assist in the execution and evaluation of research projects in their area of study. The positions may oversee Research Assistants in areas such as the use of proper techniques, analysis, and documentation.

Senior Research Assistants work under the general supervision or direction of more senior researchers or faculty members, and are expected to exercise judgment in prioritizing, planning and organizing their own work within defined parameters.

Position Overview:

Working as my video design assistant, the Senior Research Assistant (SRA) will collaborate closely with the director and scenic designer during the initial design phase for Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre (RMTC) production of My Name is Lucy Barton.in Fall 2026. This role is integral to the conceptual development of the production’s visual world, contributing both creative insight and technical execution.

Duties:

This senior research assistant will be:

- Assisting the video designer during the initial design stages.
- Design Research — Locate, curate, and organize photographic and visual reference materials that support the evolving design concepts.
- Image Manipulation — Edit, composite, and refine images to create design prototypes, visual studies, and presentation materials.
- Motion Graphics Creation — Develop motion-based visual elements that enhance or inform the scenic design, including animated textures, transitions, or environmental effects.
- Cue Programming — Prepare, format,



and program finalized images and motion assets into the production’s cueing software for integration into the technical workflow.

Qualifications:

- Completed THFM 2201 (Principles of Design), THFM 2801 (Production I), THFM 3201 (Styles in Design) or equivalent theatre design courses.
- Completed THFM 4203 (Contemporary Stage Design), THFM 3002 (Special Topics in Projection Design) or equivalent projection design course would be an asset.
- Be currently enrolled in a Theatre Design/Production program, or equivalent program such as Architecture, Environmental Design, or Interior Design.
- Graduate of a Theatre Design/Production program is an asset.
- Competence in photo manipulation software (Adobe Photoshop or Affinity Photo) is required.
- Competence in Qlab or Isadora cue control software is required.
- Competence in video manipulation software (Adobe Premiere or equivalent) is an asset.
- Competence in graphic manipulation software (Adobe Illustrator or Affinity Designer) is an asset.
- Competence in motion graphic software (Apple Motion or Adobe After Effects) is an asset.
- Ability to work independently is required.
- Ability to work in front of a computer screen for lengths of time is required.

Condition(s) of Employment:

- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

The period of work will be from September 1, 2026 - January 31, 2027,



and the estimated total hours of work will be 50-64 hours. Note: This position is represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada - Research Capacity Unit.
